Default Frenchmans 8/25

Headed back out today with the wife. Anchored up on 50 feet of water at 0830 and waited. Pops pulls up and anchors in 53 foot water. An hour later Bang fish on for pops then bang again! Mom and Pops got a double!!!!! They boat one and loose the other. They hook 2 more by 1300, a tule (released) and a clipped steelie. Then the ship is leaving anchor so we gotta move. Pops gets his spot back and I move in closer to him. 52 feet of water. Husker moves in a little low and next to me with some real neato anchor moves. (you now I gotta say something). Finally as things settle down my rod goes off. Good heavy pull then nothing. I reel in, no clancy , leader broke. Guess that was my $10 donation to the fish God and a note to self "need to get some 40 pound mono before next trip and a few more of those $10 spoons."

Mom hooks a real small steelie, released. Then the wifes rod goes off. ( I told her we needed to stay longer). She fights at anchor until it sees the boat. Thumburner, literally ! We bust loose. Wifey is doing a pro job fighting this brute. All of the sudden, the reel flys off the real seat and slams into the first guide. "Oh $#%^, what the $$%^ and several more words that made me blush came out of her mouth. Got the reel back into place and after a bit I netted a bright 32lb URB. What a bueaty!!! The fish I mean. Pops hooks into yet another fish. 19 lb nook in the box. Picked up anchor and headed home at 5.

Pops boat hooks 6, 3 fish in the box. We hook 2, 1 in the box. Lots of fish caught today and a lot more boats. Fish seemed to be caught everywhere at every depth but some boats were really smokin. I Know SureSet had a good day.

Wish I had the next few days off.

Husker, Nice to meet you.

My buddy had his reel pop off like that up at Tillamook 2 years ago. He caught it and looked at me with this dumb look on his face! He still got the fish but I will never forget the "look"

Sounds like you had a great day!! Congrats

Nice going WaterDog Man I wish I didn't have to work today. I will be hitting her on Friday so hopefully there will still be some fish left. I wish I could have seen your mom and pops with doubles, man what a hoot. Did you see more fish caught today than yesterday?

I donated an alvin the other day. I was fishing just above 205 and had a hard take down. Picked the rod up and tried to set the hook, nothing. Ended up reeling in just my spreader and weight. The nook broke 30lb like it was nothing. I switched to 40lb leaders and have not had a problem since. Gets expensive when you donate $8 lures to the fish gods.

nice job waterdog, its always nice to get the spouse a fish. My wife had her reel come off in the heat of battle once as well, but we managed to get it back on and land the fish. Now when I hand my guests their rod I check the reel seat and the drag. Did I Chat with you yesterday, I was is the red T-jet. Thanks for the info you provided, we ended up with a frisky but small URB.

Good to see you again WD. Nice to meet your Mom, she sounds like a kick (I'll let that part about you being bad luck slide.....).

What is interesting to me is that out of 10 fish in my boat over the weekend, 9 came on one rod/lure combo (luckily mine). The rod/lure that was responsible for the only other one, was also responsible for 4 of 4 in another boat the next day. Praise those lures that work and forget the rest. I don't think the specific color is the trick, it's something magic about some plugs/lures that makes them catch fish. God forbid I lose that "special" combo that's working!

Waterdog- Great reportand glad to hear your mom and wife are catching fish! Bet there was alot of hooting and hollering going on espically with the reel poping out and that will be the one all of you will remember for a long time I am sure. After meeting your family at the jetty for the 2nd year they will both have stories and bragging rights about those fish they caught.

I was going to report from the bank nothing was going on for about 15 anglers. Fun teaching our Rott to swim and our daughter to serve at beach volleyball. We decided not to take the boat out, bad decision.
The middle seemed to be where the action was and very congested in boat ramp west of the bar park. Is that where you launch out of or the OR side? Boat and trailer parking was so limited some rigs used the park. Going to try it in mid week when it is less crowded.

Yesterday was great in the Columbia, the fish were biting like pirinnas. Between my boat and my fathers anchored side by side fishing total of 6 rods we had 25 take downs, 15 fish on and landed 11. With the bigest one at 35#. Man I love the fall nooks.

WTG, WD! Looks like the Mrs. has the hot rod and the magic touch.

To those who have't had the pleasure, Waterdog's folks are the best and his Mom is a genuine kick-in-the-pants who even laughs at *my* jokes.

I'll look forward to seeing the whole crew soon, Rich!

Pretty good bite today (except on my rod). I killed me to leave the river at 2:45, but I had commitments. I snuck out for a few hours with the puppy dog. We were anchored about 3 boats to the left of Fishin Mission. They didn't stick around in that spot very long before he pulled out and moved up river a ways.

Between noon and 2:45, the boat next to me had two in the box and the next boat over had 4. I had one missed takedown. That will teach me not to snooze in the boat. Going to hit it again tomorrow. Now I just have to find a ride home for my wife from work so that I can stay out all afternoon.
