Default Portland area Fall Chinook questions

Do most people use alvins, does anyone use quick-fish/baitwrap like for springers? What depth do you target? What times of the tide are usually best for the bite. I've never fished the fall run, can anyone give me a quick primer. Thanks in advance for the help.

I fish Frenchmans Bar below the mouth of the Willamette on the Washington side. You'll see lots of boats.

I fish Alvins and Clancys 40-50 feet of water with 5 foot dropper and 5 foot leader. I have seen folks catch fish on Kwikies.

Do a search on "frenchmans Bar" and you should find lots of info. Look at the archives and one of the posts has gps coordinates. Good luck!

Not having a boat we plunk up and down the Oregon side. We have caught 70% of our fish on wrapped quickfish we slide down the line after casting out our spin n glos.

Red,

There is often a line just out from the Sea Scott base by the airport. Right around 30 feet using Alvins or Clancies with 4-5 foot droppers and leaders. Best seems like the chrome and highlight yellow.

Here is my tip - on 8/25, our fish didn't hammer it. The tip started "fluttering" like you picked up some grass or leaves. This is distinctly different from "wobble" action of the lure. SWING baby!!!! It's a fish.

No victory cookies, but I did a high-five and handshake to my fishing partner for a skillful net job. I was one boat in from the channel side in the line above the big ship. When the ship weighed anchor we skee- daddled. We should have stayed to get our spot back, but we were worried it might take a while to move that ship. As it was, we went upstream, and by the time we were on the hook, the ship steamed past us. Oh well I'll know next time, those boys know what they're doing!

By the way I had the pleasure of caring for your mom fishin mission. She said you were a good boy, but couldn't understand why you weren't " there for her that day."  If you feel benevolent and want to let me in on the secret lure, e-mail me.
