Default Astoria today

Oh, it's going to be a wilderness experience ... just you and a couple close friends. Yep, it'll be you, enjoying the outdoor experience! Just like today ... but maybe a couple more friends.

Oh, and it was sunny, too.

Looks calm though!? By showing no fish does that mean you have no fish to show?

What's the catch factor report!?

7 hours on the water ... 3 "yanks" ... no fish. Saw very few fish. At 12:30 the fish checker had seen ZERO fish. Those fish will be hungry - they have to eat sometime, right?

Pete,

Yes, they have to eat, however the coho I caught yesterday with fishinfool had 5 needlefish and a hearing in it. Those babies are having a dining experience out there, in the river and ocean. This might be why the bite is slow or they are not attacking the bait very hard.

Good luck.

ggrrr.....
lost my 1st post to many pictures......

i learned a valuable lesson today,....never go into the fog without a compass or a gps......here i am in the river swamped in fog.....shesh i can't see 10 feet....let alone see the bidge which is 2-3miles long......bad move.....

never go out into the fog without a gps or a compass...that was a really erie feeling......i must have asked 5 people which way to the bridge......hey i am lost wheres the bridge?...shesh...we had a good day after the adventure but

so after wandering around for about an hour.....probably going in circles.....i finally found a guide to follow......then i had to dogde the sand bar .....oh no now i am in 3 feet of water.....

so after we finally get to our fishing spot my girlfreind puts into 20 pulls then my turn.....kicker is barely running mind u.....
15 pulls and i hit bottom!!..i mean what??....i cant be on the bottom so i crank up 3 times and give a big jerk fish on .....less then 10 seconds into the fishing time.......cromer.....
i pass it over to my GF and we have cromer in the boat.....

we ended up with 2 chinook and 1 silver for 5 bites.....i say always use owner hooks...they are awesome!!!

So, Husker...you probably were so lost you have no idea where you hooked all those fish in about one-third of the water depth we've all been trying to fish?

Pete, you were in good company today, we too went there for solitude and oneness with the great tyee...launced at Hammond, three boat waiting at 7:30am! lots of parking left.

Three poles in the water, only two takedows, nothing to the boat. Saw very few netted.. maybe 10, all looked small.

There are fish there, one buddie had 8 for 5 rods and other had 4 for 4 rods, this was a early afternoon report, but these guys are good and fish lots. Still no silvers, but with the increased nighttime spill at the dam now going on it's 5th day, it will not only suck the URB's up the creek, but should hasten the arrival of the coho.

Thanks ******,
Roylene here, , but realy, I did not mind being lost at all. I knew we had enough food and water to last till the fog cleared, or until the next boat came by. It was nice to bring in some fish though. They are all cleaned and cut and ready to eat. Yum, Yum, I can hardly wait to cook them. \

A good day with a big skunk for my boat today. Got to Warrenton at 7:30, no line. Hit the Columbia at about 8:15, fished around the sawdust pile until the fog lifted a bit then headed to the north side.

There was a wee bite off of Chinook at about 10:00, we hoped that was the start of the action, it turned out to be the peak!

Really very slow day - good thing the limit on chinook is being reduced, another 200 days like today and that quota will be all wrapped up

Probably saw 10 fish caught all day for a few thousand boats.

Managed two keeper crabs, lots of females, a few nice big ones. My crew got hassled by the game cop, who really tried and tried to get the crabs to measure undersize.

Sleepy time ... bet they hammer 'em tomorrow. Enjoy.

We stuck to the flats all day (after that fog this morning, I didn't want to be very far from shore -- and it was starting to roll back in this afternoon when we left). Nothing in the AM -- didn't see a fish caught, had no takers. But about 2:30 there was a flurry around us...we managed 2 clippies and had 2 other takers but they were 'unattached.' Whole lotto boats out there today -- not many fish on the screen either -- they lost in the fog too?

Kampy, I thought the bridge area had a good bite around high tide. Husker. no subsitute for
a good gps, you should have stuck with us when we bumped into you. Good job on the fish. We ended up with two, when the bite happens and crowd builds, you need a battering ram. despite little sleep, crazy crowded boat launchs and thousands of boats,
it's a lot of fun. time for the upper river.
****** for president, Bill- good post.

Thanks neighbor, even if you did mean another Bill...that's interesting about the spill...I didn't know that was going on, but the count sure went up...thanks too for the info...think I'll take my crabpots to Tillamook and look for chinook scouts.

Caught a 35# nook yesterday at the downsteam side of the Astoria bridge. The incoming tide brought in the anchovies. I marked lots of fish on the screen but they didn't seem interested in many people's offerings. I swapped out the diver I was using to a banana sinker followed by a 00 chrome flasher with prism tape followed by an anchovy. Caught the nook shortly after.

It was a zoo out there. The fog was tough in the morning and in the afternoon. I saw several boats being pulled in by the USCG. Based on what I saw yesterday I'm going to concentrate my efforts upstream of Astoria. In my opinion it's not worth the time, expense, and stress of the crowds and elements to get a chance at 1 nook.
