Default Annual Water Rescue Training

Clackamas County Fire District #1 will be conducting our annual department wide water rescue re-fresher training on the Clackamas River. This training is for all Firefighters and will be taught by our Water Rescue Team. The Water Rescue Team is comprised of 11 Rescue Boat Operators and Rescue Swimmers. The dates are March 22nd - 25th and 30th - April 1st. We will be on the river from 9 am to 3 pm 1/4 of a mile above Riverside Park on river right. This is an opportunity for all of our Firefighters to practice swimming, throw bag deployment and basic water survival skills. Drowning on a water related emergency has greater potential than dying in a fire due to the fact that we cover over 17 miles of river, an estimated 50 miles of creek and over 30 large ponds. This training gives every Firefighter the basic tools to survive and also respond to the public's calls for help.

Sounds like fun...can I play? Just kidding; the water's too cold right now! I think I still remember some of my river rescue training from getting certified as a rafting guide in Colorado, but we did it in June. Good luck!
