Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
Man, 47 for a license, and 57 for my boat
I only had enough to get my tags, and some line on my reel. Guess the boat has to sit. What are the fines for going out with an 03 tag on the boat? I have not gotten my renewal notice in the mail either.

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
If you fish the Columbia only..... buy an out of state 2 day license/tag ...$8.00.. thats what Im doing until April first, when Washington's tag cycle begins again and its worth my while to buy a yearly.
problem is we have a bunch of disorganized organized people that crush to the pressure of threatened fish hatchery closures.... I wont name any names here but most make their living taking people on fishing trips.
This year I have boycotted Oregon fishing and hunting all together.... one person can't make a difference... but me, my mom and dad, my GF and her 3 kids are not giving ODFW any money this year.. thats only about $500-$600... but it sure makes me feel better...and im spending my sportsman dollars out of state this year. Sent ODFW an Email tellin them how I feel also.
As for the boat tags..... I dont know what to tell ya

The Chub: I don't know what the fine is for not registering your boat.
But I can tell you the dude from Albany who thought he could get away with it on the Multnomah Channel this past Saturday, got cited by our county deputy for an unregistered boat and will soon be spending a day traveling to Vernonia to spend some quality time with our 'hanging judge' who resides there.

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
toyn2much, thank-you for deciding not to hunt and fish Oregon this year, I just wish there were more who felt as strongly as you do! This will make hunting and fishing conditions that much more bearable for ME! So let me see if I have this right? Orygun: Resident combo license: $43.75, Warshingtun: Resident combo license: $120.00. It's confirmed, you should move to our neighbor to the north. You'll feel soo much better shelling out 3 times as much as you do now!

You can't get something for nothing...unless it's nothing. Fish & wildlife management in Oregon is unsurpassed! And they do it on a limited budget with limited staff. ODFW is committed to provide commercial and recreational opportunities for generations to come. They want you to catch some fish, hunt some game, and for you be able to teach you grandchildren to do the same. Nuff said.

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
It's not really the fishing license that kills me, it is the doubled boat registration. What is the justification of this fee? We already pay to launch from so called parks that are taxpayer dollars have already funded. They sure as hell aren't trying to clean up our rivers, so why a double in the fee??

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
I know you're frustrated by increased costs associated with fishing boating. Who likes paying more? No one I've met.
However, ODFW and WDFW don't just stand for fish. They stand for fish and wildlife. The vast majority of wildlife in these states is not harvestable and does not produce revenue as say, steelhead, elk, and ducks do.
Every species of plants and animals in these states is studied and kept track of by these two agencies.
Because of current budget siuations, the amount of money these agencies are receiving from the state government is at a much lower percent than in years past.
So, in a nutshell, there's on major reason why fees across the board are on the rise.
This post is not meant to upset anyone, but it is my feeling that if you utilize your fishing, hunting, and boating licenses and registrations enough, these three forms of entertainment are quite possibly some of the cheapest you can partake in.
I'm a college student. I don't have a lot of money to throw around, but I've found fishing and it's exenditures are one the cheapest forms of fun a college student can have.
I guess it comes down to priorities, and fishing is my top priority. Some people think I may need to re-think my priorities, but I don't listen to them...I know what's best for me.

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
Im not poor... just dont like being led around by my wallet(good boy, now sit..STAY)... Besides, how many of you dont know how good the fishing is in Puget sound just because the medeocre Oregon fishing keeps you satisfied?
And stop feeling sorry for the guys at ODFW. $4 for a drawing hunt.....Oh cmon! How much you think those fancy ODFW computers cost? How many little guys did it put out of the license selling business? There was a drawing hunt 3 years ago for a 35 acre parcel of land!!! might as well paint a number on an animal and draw for the privilege to shoot it!
I can understand rate increases, but 20% increases that are blatantly initiated to pad the general fund and NOT help fishing and hunting? Where does it end? And with 7-8% of Oregonians out of work too....
OK, Ive rambled enough.... worked all night and need to get some sleep.
FYI
As for the boat registration fee, now that I can understand... its a LUXURY... pay for it.
But the boaters license is just a farce to increase revenue for the general fund... $10 for a card that the out of staters and boat renters arent required to have???? Sounds fishy to me...

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
Boat registration fees go toward facility development and maintenance, boater education, enforcement and other insidious evil stuff. If you haven't notice "life in general" ain't getting cheaper.
The Marine Board has a bunch of really good "free" publications, check it out. Get your money's worth.

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
I used to get my kids harvest tags along with there license. They really did very little salmon fishing, but I liked getting them the tags just to support the fishery and just having more poles in the water, but it just cost to much now for me.

Re: Why are the fee's so expensive this year???
Move to Virginia. It only costs you $7.50 for your saltwater license and $12.00 for your freshwater licenses. So fishing's cheap.
But sell your boat. You will pay a 4.57% personal property tax on the value of your boat, motor, and trailer each year to register it!!
I've lived in 9 states. They all find some way to get money from you for the services that someone (maybe not you) asked for.
