Default Herring vs. Sardines for Kwiki Wraps

I fish below McNary for springers and just wanted to here from you I-fishers down river what is the choice? I have always used sardines but I can't figure why a herring wrap would'nt work?

Also do you think a cut plug or whole herring would work up this high on the river with just a dropper and no flasher?? I am interested in trying new things but will go back to the old stand-by if necessary.

Last does anyone know where I could get a shipment of sardines shipped to Eastern Oregon??

You could contact Tony at Pacific Seafood on 34th and SE Powell in PDX, for the right price he would probably ship.

Steelie King, I wish I would have read this post earlier. I live in Hermiston, and just got ride of 5lbs of surplus sardines.

IMO sardines have more oil(scent last longer) then herring. I always use sardines.....Ross

From what I know, the reason why everyone use's sardines is cause they are real oily and will give out scent for a long time.

And about cut pluggin it up around McNary,...Don't see why it would not work?

Serious Guys. If you want a deal go to an independent grocer in your area. Ask the meat manager to order you a case from his seafood supplier. Steelie King it looks like you may live near Umitilla see Jim at Columbia Red Apple. Tell him Jeff sent you. Cost on a full case should run about103.33Green Label. I can hook you up all over the state from Seattle to Ashland to K Falls to LaGrand to Tri Cities. Desert Aire area. These stores arent Wal Mart, they are there to serve you. Hope I'm not advertising.

i fished mouth of the umatilla quite a bit last year. i noticed that when we wrapped with sardines we caught a lot of URS's(upriver squaws) and even a sturgeon but no springers. when we wrapped with herring no URS's but a few nice springers. maybe the herring wasn't smelly enough to attract the less desirables? anyway i'd be willing to go in on bulk sardines/herring up here in the 3cities/walla walla area.

Sardines milk longer, milk better. I've never heard of the catching bunches of junk fish on them. If you fish lower CR and you're hooking a few squaws, no bother, turn them in at the launch, and they'll pay for bait! Bluetick- 10-4 on that. Although I work at a local grocery store, and have connections with my seafood manager, I just got an extremely good deal on 'dines. I know that even a private party shopper could them for a lot cheaper at the grocery store than the sporting good store!

I've had my best luck on sardines, the fresher the better.

Some folks think that Sardines are food. You can find them at Asian food markets ...
