Default Fuel tank vent surge protector?

Mine came apart and can't find anything in the bilge bay that looks like it belongs inside of it. My question is--Do they have anything inside of them or are they designed to just slow the fuel down so it doesn't come gushing out of the vent opening into the drink?
It looks like I could just glue it back together if they have nothing in them.

Might possibly have been a float inside, but not sure without seeing it. If you try and glue it back together, the glue must be able to handle gasoline. Let me know if I could get you a new one. They are not expensive and very easy to install. E-mail me if you would like at waterrdy@wvi.com

what does it look like? I had a "whistler" installed on my tank on the vent line in the bilge. I noticed the gas leak before I understood what was happening. the part is useless and not necessary unless ye like to hear the whistle. If this is not the part you have I hope someone with a late model Alumaweld notices this before they find gas in the bilge.
