Lake Tahoe Trip
I just returned from a work related weekend trip in Stateline Nevada. Last week the area had over 4 feet of new snow and the weather this weekend was totally clear and sunny. It was gorgeous with the mountains covered in snow. I made reservations with a fishing guide for a buddy from work and me for yesturday. I have never really done much big lake fishing so I was excited to give it a shot. We had the pleasure of fishing with Gene St. Denis. Gene is a local guide who has been fishing Tahoe for over 20 years and is the type of guide others start following. He runs a 20 foot Alumaweld and fishes light tackle gear. We had a great experience on Sunday. We set minnow traps first thing in the morning and ran to right area. He is a fishing machine. Watching him fish was nuts! We reeled the fish in but he was the one fishing. He constantly changed the depth of the downriggers, worked the trolling motor, and managed to give us fresh cinnamin rolls and coffee. We both learned a lot and caught a bunch of fish. We were targeting Mackinaw and were catching and releasing so we could keep fishing. Most were 3-5lbs. with the biggest at 9-12lbs. Booking a guide for our trip made me nervous not knowing exactly who we would be fishing with. I just want to post what a great trip we had and highly recommend a trip with Denis. You guides out there understand the importance of referrals. He fishes year round for Mackinaw, Browns, and Rainbows. His number is (530) 544-6552 or look him up at Blue Ribbon Fishing Charters.
