Default Hammond Trip

Just spent 5 great days fishing between Ilwaco and the Bridge. Great weather, great fishing and great friends. Launched in the dark every day except Sat when we slept in till about 7 and were off the water by noon or 1:00 most every day. We punched out 3 days and got some nice fish every day. Love this fishery, you can be a hero one day and then be made humble the next, all with the same gear, bait and water. Won't go into details on how we caught them as that has been discussed in detail in other posts, but we did seem to do better with green divers in low light and clouds and we used fish flashes probably 70 % of the time. Same ol, same ol, 14 -20 pulls and mostly plug cut fresh hearing, but our two biggest fish came on the day before's hearing that we brined up over night to save it. Released a tule that was well over 40 and a few 30's. Our biggest bright fish was in the low 30's, and got a few Coho, killed one that was about 13 lbs on Sat. Here is a picture of a nice 52 pounder landed in my friends boat, Pro Guide Brad Vanderzandian.

Wish I had caught it, nice fish. With all the fishing and then a party every night, I did not take very many pictures, but here a pic of a couple nice Columbia River nookers I killed on Friday.

In the five days I fished, Wednesday was the hottest bite, above the bridge, second would have been Ilwaco channel this morning (sunday) for about 2 hours, saw a few doubles, but never in our boat. We only managed to get two bites and one fish, we got spanked and I don't know why. Man, I tell ya, that was a very hot bite this morning, have a guide friend that limited his 4 clients by 9 AM on Saturday in this area. Seems like everyone was down there this morning. The other days we got most of our fish below the bridge. Did fish the green line on the Oregon Side on Saturday afternoon over by the sawdust pile as we heard there was a bite there Fri afternoon and got into them for a while.
