Fried
I spose if everyone's out fishing, this is as good a time as any to also join the fun...welcome also to the nickel...
I've never been called a fry before, although I've used the name twice with the AKC in front of my dogs...mykiss and kisutch. Maybe I'll get to be a chinook at some point, although I'm getting a bit on the dark side myself...
I often use the site for story ideas and information and have always appreciated everyone who contributes...yes, even them...
In fact, I'm heading to buoy 10 Tuesday (tell me again why we're all sitting at computers today instead of the Hammond boat ramp line?) but first have to stop and get a coyote or two. Maybe at the new sportsman's warehouse in Salem on my way to a friend's BBQ in my old stomping grounds at Corvallis.
Anyway, like five cents, I also am looking forward (I think) to being a more active member of Jennie's family.
thanks....

Re: Fried
Thanks very much plugcutter...it's going to be a chore for a bit while this old head tries to work out yet ANOTHER computerized process, but I'll probably figure it out sooner or later...I either do that or else "As long as you're home this morning not doing anything, you might as well vacuum...."

Re: Fried
Hi Bill...Welcome aboard!! Yeah...I too am sitting here at the computer, when I should be on the water somewhere. But since today is "Day One" of my vacation....I thought sleeping in would be a nice option, since my workdays usually begin about 2:30 a.m.
But hey...the outgoing tide on the Columbia begins at about 4 p.m. today in the Portland area...so a nice late afternoon/early evening on the river sounds appealing, huh??

Re: Fried
Welcome, Mr. Monroe!
Now one of the most important skills you will need to hone is the picture uploading. We need to see evidence of your piscatorial pursuits so we can be sure that you are really out there and not just imagining you are fishing!
Actually Jennie has made the site really really easy to navigate and it provides access to copious amounts of information, as you may have already noticed. But this is the fun part!

Re: Fried
Welcome Bill. Look forward to your input . At least now we will have someone here to make sure everything Pete is telling us is true. joke Pete, joke.
Like FM, I'm taking it easy on the first day of my Vacation. Going to spend a few days on the boat and fish my brains out. Here is a news flash. Got a 22# URB on Sunday and my best friend got a 36# tule on his birthday Thursday. All on alvins in 39' of water above Martin Slough somewhere I'll post pics Wednesday when I get back in to town. Need to adjust the pics because its way too easy to tell exactly where I'm sitting, if ya know what I mean. Got to go now so I can hit the afternoon tide in St Helens around 2.
Once again, glad to see ya here.
Hey, tell us a story. It's a right of passage. I'll read it on Wednesday.
David
Here ya go. Peer pressure Had to come home to get a couple things I forgot, cell phone and pants No time to doctor location so I'm sure some of ya can tell where we were for Mark's fish.
My first Fall fish this season.
Mark's 36# birthday fish and his first of the season.

Re: Fried
If I had pictures to show, believe me I would take the trouble to figure how to get them shown...
Son-in-law did catch a 20-pounder last Sunday at Nehalem...My first time, really, in all these years doing the bay for salmon...low and high...weeds made the Ghost hole seem appealing...
My best recent fish story was actually dredged up by Mark Freeman, the outdoor writer at Medford Mail tribune (yes, it's on line).
A hairdresser from San Jose was walking on the beach at rogue Bay in Gold Beach when a sea lion chased a chinook ashore and he pounced on it...took it to Jot's for a button (but didn't get one when they found out the method) and weighed it in at 57 and three quarters...then got out of town before the cops could catch him...no tag...there have been 50-pounders down there since June...I think tilly may give up a 60 this year...
Oh yeah, I rarely answer to "Mister." Nothing personal, but I only pay attention when it's from my spouse and is either the last thing I hear as I pass out...or run out of earshot.
Oops...just heard it...gotta go vacuum...

Welcome Bill, you finally did it. Glad to see you getting involved rather than just lurking. It ought to be a little more interesting with you being a member here if you write something controversial! Looking forward to your insights and comments.

Re: Fried
I knew you had been reading the posts here for sure when thursdays paper was delivered. There was a lot of information in the paper that I was sure I had seen posted here in the last week or so. Seems to be a great site with a lot of interesting as well as funny responses. Is there anyone who will not be at Buoy 10 this week?

Hi Bill, It is great to see you on the board. I really enjoy your articles in the paper. In fact, it is the only reason I purchase the rag on Sundays. Look forward to reading your posts. By the way, how is the new German Shorthair. I have a English Pointer and she is not much of a fishing dog, but heck, she'll cover four counties in one day of upland bird hunting. Once again its nice to see you on the board. John

Re: Fried
Thanks very much to everyone...I spose it's bad form to become a chinook member (500 posts apparently) on a single topic, so will try to respond just once...
I don't know *** (heh, heh) because apparently everyone's identity is either some sort of secret here or else you're all in a nickname contest for a free G-Loomis sumptin or other...
doesn't matter anyway, although that one picture (not the ones of the fish...very impressive) of me is strangely similar to one on a negative at work. We have a few fishermen on staff, especially in the photo department. The better news for everyone is that those guys have more than a handful of photos of me asleep in a wide variety of boats, shorelines and tree stands...
Please don't anyone feel the need to be gentle, even from the getgo...yes, I use some of your information (after confirming) and this is a good way for you to unload on me as well. there are shortcomings, most of which I have little control over, but I want to hear them and do my best on the ones I can fix.
Jerry Dove, I'll give you a call sometime soon...you've got my number, too...My latest understanding is that the Salem mess is all school-related and so far they've kept their hands off the money-makers, like hatcheries.
I don't know that you'd ever get Mark Freeman on here, although he'd be a hoot. He'll probably tell me to go get a life when I invite him...he's usually too busy fishing or (his real hobby) finding strange people to write about...surely some or most ifishers qualify.
Oh, and I don't get either air or sea sick...did a few times on a destroyer in the navy, but all three involved a hangover and typhoons, so it wasn't fair. I'm both black and brown shoe...I was an ASROC and sonar technician on a can and then switched to aviation warfare and ran a radar and a technical crew on a P3.
Heard lots of whales over the years, so big fish stories don't scare me.
Buoy 10 scares me, but I can't stay away...so I'm heading over there Tuesday...and if the news of rattlesnakes, 100-degree heat, rain, mountainous waves and swift currents doesn't keep you away, consider this....
I'm taking the Pilgrim with me.
thanks again all....gonna go play with the 93 diesel (6.5 cat) GMC I just bought...see if it will tow my driftboat...

Noticed that, Fire Dog (?)...thanks.
And there's nothing particularly thin about this old skin after 29 years in journalism...well, ok, maybe a little bit here and there. I'm not able to express it as easily in the paper, though...

Re: Fried
Well well... a virtual celebrity in our midst. Hey here's some news for ya... there are halibut to be had just ouside the Nehalem bar. I got a 38# three weeks ago right at the bouy in only 45 ft of water, and last week a 48# was taken amoung several others. Mine, and most, were hooked on accident while trolling near the bottom for chinook. I'd imagine mooching the bottom would be more productive.
Welcome aboard.
