Boat speed in the MC
Would some one comment on the speed rules from SE mouth of the MC to the Sauvie Island bridge. It seems to be 5 miles per hour the whole way but not adhered to??

Re: Boat speed in the MC
There was a good thread on this a few weeks back with some good info. Do an ifish search for "no wake" or "no wake zone".

Re: Boat speed in the MC
I think it's 5 mph, no wake zone on either side, but the middle I beleive is still open. I know people live in that stretch, but how are we supposed to get between too few boat launches

Re: Boat speed in the MC
Seems like even though you are traveling up or down the north side of the MC you are rarely 200 feet away. So to the letter of the law even though you may put off less wake on plane you can not travel faster than 5 mph on most of those zones

Here's the thread which Lured-In referred to:

A good read if you travel that water.

Re: Boat speed in the MC
garyk is right on It's definitely 200feet from those moorages...Furthermore, Slow-No-Wake/5MPH is often confused...Disregard the (5MPH) make sure you are conforming to the Slow-(No)-Wake
Common sense and courteousy will go a long ways
Using this rule further when there's a congestion of trollers/anchors is going to bid you well also

Re: Boat speed in the MC
I go like hell on the the far side of the house boats , my sj puts out little or no wake by the time it hits the otherside, I know this for a fact, one of my good freinds lives in a house boat at rivers bend and standing on his deck as boats go by plowing put out much more of a wake than full plane.I have been doing it for years and have passed the police boats with out a ticket or a bad look. however there will always be someone that will disagree.

Re: Boat speed in the MC
This is a bit of the subject but Sat I was trolling at the head of the channel when I heard a boat ripping down the Willamette .I looked up river to see this red speed type boat roaring down river. This boat started swerving radically side to side as it got nearer to me and I stood up not knowing where he was headed. As he went by me and about 20 other boats trolling he glared at me ( maybe cause I was standing up?)and slowed down told me to "%$#^%#- off" and flipped me off . He then sped up and ripped on down to Freds to fuel . I have seen this same boat last year. Beware of this guy , he has no respect for other boaters and is on a short fuse. The name of his boat is "Blue Water".

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I'll bet this person acts this way in his car too.
I spoke to one of the Mult. county river police a couple of months back on an incident that you can read about in this thread.
River Rage discussion thread
If you call in and they can get to the person while they are still on the water they WILL ticket them. If they cannot find them, they will look up the registration numbers and send them a warning letter.
YOU MUST GET THE REGISTRATION NUMBERS! Photos of the behavior are good too. Lets give the police a hand with this one!

Re: Boat speed in the MC
I have seen this boat in the Milwaukie area too and I have noticed that same thing.
He goes up and down the river all day at full tilt boogie. Hope he hits a dead head.

Re: Boat speed in the MC
Is this the guy running open exhaust? The one you can hear coming and going literally a mile away? How does he not get cited for noise?

Re: Boat speed in the MC
In regards to the open exhaust or over the transom "noise"...He has to be stopped and inspected w/ a sound meter Some sound loud and are actually legal...
As for someone getting cited for "river rage" the operator of the boat would have to be witnessed by the law enforcement officer/deputy/trooper in order to issue a Unsafe Operation IF there is reckless operation which is a crime...Reckless defined simply as the action is more likely than not going to cause serious injury...so in the case you explained in a previous thread...Both parties are at fault...to what degree would have to be decided after hearing all sides and any witnesses....
Rule of thumb...Stay clear and keep a cool head on the 'ol shoulders... Be safe and Fish On!!

Re: Boat speed in the MC
Yesterday mid-day 25-30 Bayliner passed my house created such a wake it spilt my coffee. I got in my boat chased him down informed him of the rules (Funny enough most people don’t seem to understand them). Only to see him speed off and laugh, Two miles down river the Sheriff pulled him aside and wrote him a ticket.
I hate being that kind of person.. But not as much as I hate spending money on my house do to other peoples ignorance.
Just my 2 cents

Re: Boat speed in the MC
SalmonSeason When I approach a boat in order to slow them down it's always "Yes sir - No Sir" If I didn't, I don’t think a lot of people would take me serious then I wouldn't get my point across. I do find most people generally are annoyed by a wild man in a boat coming toward them asking them too slow down. How ever after they slow down and I explain “WHY” I’m doing what I’m doing. Then nine out of ten people understand and apologize commenting they just didn’t understand the rules and thought they were doing ok. How ever there is always one in the crowd. Then after shaking my head I simple turn my boat around as I’m copying there registration information.

Re: Boat speed in the MC
Please be careful assuming any red boat with loud exhaust is the same boat. I have seen this red Blue Water boat (which mine is not a Blue Water) buzz the docks and cause boats to bounce around like crazy. But I don't drive that way. I have a solid red boat (along with others) also but never flip anyone off or disobey speed limits or no wake zones. I try to give everyone as much room as possible when traveling around other boats. Sometimes there isn't much room left as the whole river is taken up. If you go by at barely on plain you throw out the biggest wake possible. Is it best to go by faster with a much smaller wake or do you expect everone to stop and proceed at no wake speed at every group of fishing boats?

Hey there Skeez.
Don't we wish it was that simple.
I too live on a floating home and indeed do not pay real estate property tax, I do howerer pay personal property tax on my house.
And, a floating home with out a puddle is a trailer house.
So, moorage can be very spendy.
the marina owner does pay:
Real property tax
State Land Lease for the mud under the marina.
Water
Sewer
Electrical
Marina Maintainence
Insurance
Business Tax
Licenses
Etc, etc.
And take a wild guess who all of that is passed on to through monthly moorage "rent".?
No friend Skeez, livin' on the creek ain't the freeby it was years ago. We have all been found out.
I have lived on a floater for a number of years and don't plan on leavin' until they come with the pine box.
It's a mind set/life style. Ya gotta love it "year round" or yer just a flatlander.
And as with all else, in the imortal words of Rodney King...
"can't well all just get along?" to some of us that translates to No Wake PLEASE!
Everything in life is a trade-off
E-EYE, E-EYE, YO!
