Default Earliest Springer (for me)

So this past Friday by buddy Hog King (who needs to register) and I were out on the big C in our 14 foot Gregor for an early springer trip (our first). I have never caught one before April and I have never caught a chinook on the troll this side of the Astoria bridge so my expectations weren't real high. Anyway, not more than 5 minutes had gone by on the first pass and my rod goes off. My luck continued as the adjustable tied leader held (don't like those things) and we boated about a 12 pound clipped Springer.

Now for the useful information: I was trolling cut-plugged herring on a 6 foot leader. I had a 6 oz dropper and I was trying to stay just off the bottom. We don't have a depthfinder on that boat, but I would guess we were in about 20-25 feet of water. We heard of around 5 other fish caught in the area that day, and twice that caught on Saturday. I was skunked on Sat. but they are out there.

I should have known it was going to be a good day when I checked a lotto ticket and got $30 after stopping for breakfast.
