Default Native Coho to spare,

Spent the day on the water with the ever so pleasant, MrEasy, and the gracious Catch and Eat. We, motored out past the jaws of the Columbia and hammered the natives beyond belief. Three our of every four were natives if not a higher percent than that. We released and cut leaders all morning and had to scratch to catch any keepers. And the ocean was closed for Chinook so we also release four or five of them. Nothing of any size though so it was easier on our attitudes towards the fish guru's that keep us guessing about what comes next. Same ones that says there is a shortage of Native Coho. I say " Bah Hunbug" to their statistices.
Bernie, was a great host and was on pretty good behavior most of the day. I think, he may have stretched a story or two for our benefits.
Jason, it was a pleasure to meet you and enjoyed your company. Perhaps we can do this again sometime. Way to stick those fish. This guy couldn't keep his line in the water. I think he may have been kissing the herring before tossing them out. Just what was your secret?
Great day on the water and the skipper really handled the bar well.... Thanks Again Bernie, it was, as usual a pleasure. Good luck next week. Hope you get some time in before they close the river on us.

The pleasure was mine Snapshot and Verysweepy. A couple of great guy to fish with. We had a pretty decent day but we had to work for the 4 fish we kept. Native and small nooks everywhere.

We also had way to many "drive by's" out there. Lots of fish hitting short.

Seems yesterday the fish had a real liking to anchovies. Heard a few reports of folks having an awesome day with them. No anchovies in our boat so we substituted with anchovie smelly jelly. Just could not get the fish to stick for some reason.

We will have to fish together again boys. It was fun.

Next time Ray, I'll have to bring a harness so you won't fall out of the boat. Just kidding.

Bernie, 10-4 on the harness or else we need higher freeboards.. . Perhaps some of those north river sled rails to hold onto???? I bet Bait of Eggs could weld them on for you?
You bring the harness and I'll bring the muzzle..
And for verys wsleep:y, he was quick on the trigger and I don't know how he kept nailing the nates... Must have been the soft touch approach.
the fish cooked up reeeel gooooood.
Tanks again and hope your time at the beach is productive. Lay off that birthday cake though.

Bernie- thanks again for a great time out on big blue, you were an exeptional host and captain and fishing with you and snapshot was an enjoyable experience, I had a blast . And I'll have to agree with snapshot, those fish tasted real good on the ol bbq  ! Even got some eggs out of the big one so I just might have to try some bobber fishing later in the season. I had it weighed at the docks there and the big one came in at 10.25 lbs  and the smaller one was 4.25 not bad for a rookie. And as for my secret to my sucess I would probably just call it begginers luck, what can I say they felt sorry for me! Thanks again guys and hope to have the pleasure of fishing with you again sometime.

Unclipped does not mean native by any streach of the imagination. There are as many unclipped hatchery coho as there are clipped ones but there are very few natives...

That is very true, a friend of my wife has a job clipping fish and she says that every now and again fish will slip out of your hands before having a chance to get clipped because some of them are so small and slippery.

Rob, I will Actually ( I can't believe I am saying this) agree with you this time. To prove your point we did bring a fish to the boat that had a very pointed Adipose fin on it. It was clippled about half way through and looked like one of those flags at an auto dealership.

But the fact is that it was still 3 to 1 natives (imposters or not) to hatchery.
