Default astoria fishing sucess

Went out Wed, the bar was flat and had been all week so we went across. There were only about 8 boats at bouy 10. We fished south from 1 to 6 miles and and out to the light bouy.
We ea. got a chinook and silver, put back 5 or
6 wild sivers ea. Got fish from 18 pulls up to 10 pulls. Nothing hitting below that. My fishing partner had never been salmon fishing, and his first was a 42 lb.hog. I think part of our sucess was we left the 2nd. hook trailing by the tail of the herring. I put a toothpick up through upper and lower lips, break it off so some is sticking out both ends and put a half hitch loop around the mouth which keeps the mouth closed and lets you put a bend in the bait. We fished for two hours saw hardly any bots inside fishing.
