Willamette River first......Sturgeon?
Well everyone, yesterday was a lot of first's for me.
Caught my first fish of the season, first sturgeon, first on my new rod & reel on the first day of a new fishery!
Say that with a mouth full..
Rouge Rod, Calcutta 401TE, mooching rig for Salmon.
I was using 6 oz's of weight, 3' leader with fender, 4' leader with Gamagatzu 4/5 cut plug herring. Depth was 47'. Back bounced while anchored. 10 minutes later...a weird bite. Picked up rod and decided to check my bait. The rod jerked and I knew that I didn't have a Salmon. Struggled for about 5 minutes then she surfaced. We figured about 30" inches. We didn't weigh it. BUT, it was a blast! So that's why people fish for these.
What a beautiful day yesterday...
