Re: Daughter is in Hospital
Jim: I'm so sorry for you and your daughter. It is critical that she have the right doctor and the right medication. You'll need to advocate for her, as it is very difficult for a person with depression/mental health issues to be proactive on their own behalf. I know this from bitter personal experience.
Prayer up.
Bill

Re: Daughter is in Hospital
Very good to hear she's getting necessary help rather than the sad alternative. 'Must be tough, though. and, best wishes for her and for you and the rest of the family. Don

Re: Daughter is in Hospital
Thanks everyone for your prayers, tonight she is at the parry house. and will be there for maybe a month, to get her medications stabilized. Its still hard for me to understand Mental problems, I know I get depressed now and then, But then I just kick myself in the Rear, and go fishing, and get back to my Normal self.

Thinking of you and your family. I worked in the residential treatment field in the past and your daughter is going to be in very good hands. Glad she has such a great support system!

Gon: Clinical depression is not a "snap yourself out of it" condition. It has to do with brain chemistry, and is just as much a disease as diabetes. Here's hoping your daughter regains stability and can find her way up out of the dark depths to the light. It's not easy.

Re: Daughter is in Hospital
It is obviously gut wrenching, but don't ever give up where ever the path leads. At 15 yrs. old their brains are far from finished and sometimes some of them have a bigger battle drawing everything together. There are so many changes going on both physiologically and pschologically just give her all the love and steadiness you have. My thoughts are with you.

Richard she is doing better, she does not like being in a "Mental Hosptal" she has been playing her Mom and Myself against each other in an effort to get one of us to take her out. But her Mom and I are at least on the same page this time.. She will most likely be there till mid january, maybe longer. I just keep her in my Prayers.
Thanks Everyone for your Prayers.....Jim

Many people are under the impression that "depression" is a feel sorry for yourself condition. I can personally tell you it is far more complex than you can imagine and manifests itself in many many ways. It is a very dangerous condition if not treated well, and not just treat the "depression" but all of the faces it takes on and all the baggage it brings with it.
I have faced this head on and still, even with the proper meds now, battle portions of it daily. Whether you think it is more imagined than "real" does not matter because for the person suffering it's devastating symptoms it is as real as it gets and physically attacks your body and mind.
I will pray for her and all those who love her, God speed in finding a doctor that gets the right combination of meds to help her control this.
For goodness sake once she gets on good meds and starts feeling "normal" again do NOT ever stop taking the meds and think you have been healed, those of us that face this will always face it and the meds help control it's effects on us. It is a life long battle but there is hope.

Re: Daughter is in Hospital
Well after almost 2 months at the parry center. my Daughter has slipped even further. she escaped out a 2nd story window twice last week while I was in Puyallup Wa. for the sportsman show. and on sunday she incited a Riot with all the other kids..
Monday night she got hold of a plastic serving spoon. and used it to jamb her door shut, and she Hung herself with a bed sheet. They broke the door in and got to her in time. she was taken to emergency room. and yesterday she was transfered to the State hospital in corvallis.
This is just tearing Me apart seeing my Baby Girl like this. and Not being able to anything to help her.
thank you for your prayers

Re: Daughter is in Hospital
Jim,
I wish your family well,
Difficult time for a father and tough on a family to see a loved one go through this.
To not be able to just reach out and "fix-it" for her.
As a Dad- that is what we believe we're supposed to do.
Sometimes we can only hang near and trust a higher power.
