Default Big Cliff Reservoir, Tuesday

The past few summers I've fished Big Cliff Reservoir in the evening, and done quite well. However it's a reregulation reservior and subject to rapid fluctuations in level that really put off the bite. I took my son there Tueday evening, and it rose about 3 feet in an hour. I hate when that happens! We only got one. Also, I've noticed that since ODFW has started stocking it, the fishing has gone downhill. I used to catch tons in the evenings, all wild, but the past few years that has changed. Perhaps the publishing of the stocking schedule draws more people to the lake, and they clean it out? Not good. I'll have to fish it when they're not messing with the level to really know for certain, though. It used to be a pretty good place for very pretty wild trout, but the past few times I've been there it's been disappointing.

Happybrew:

Thanks for the info. I live in Salem and often wonder about Big Cliff as I drive by to Detroit. I have heard that there are VERY large whitefish in the lake. Is that true? Have you had any success with them? Or is it all just a myth?............

I read it in "Fishing in Oregon", and have tried for them, but I've only gotten a 9 inch whitefish in all the time I've fished there. I think it may be a myth.
