Default Deschutes

I hope to return to the mouth of The Deschutes in the next few weeks, but after 3 days trolling in the Columbia off the mouth last September, need to seekk advice. I was told to slowly troll hot shots or wiggle warts; MJs or green and yellows. I was also told 14 pulls; 22 pulls and as long a line as possible. I like to fish off the mouth in the morning and then ride upriver in the afternoon/evening. But any better advice for trolling? First time on this forum; I appreciate what I've observed to be courteous and helpful responses.

First off, your lure selection was good, but the fishing was VERY slow up there last year. Very warm water hurt the bite. My only advice is 50 to 60 pulls, and be sure to check for weeds often, there seem to be a lot this year. Fish teh current seems onthe upriver side of the dolphin. (13-15 ft of water). Hope this helps?

Fisher-man,

We just returned from a weekend of fishing the mouth. You are right on with you lure choice. Although they were quite locked jawed on my offerings this weekend my buddy did catch 4 in four days. 3 nates and one keeper. He even landed 3 bass. He told me he was going out 50 pulls. I can't attest to this as I could not interest anything to bite. I did see alot of fish caught on Sunday and the majority of them being caught on MJ's. I talked to one lady that caught a nate on a purple one however. Please post an update if you head up there, I'm going to fish up there heavily after archery season is over. below the mouth seemed to be the hottest spot.

Get out of yer' boat, walk up da' ribber. Toss dem' spinners, catch dem' feesh, sheesh!!!
You will do better upstream if you can yank yourself away from the mouth fishery. Water too warm, go up and cast for them bad boys. You'll get some excercise AND meet some fun folks who know about fish from FF'ing to blades and casting plugs.
On second thought, stay in your boat cause' I'm going down there tomorrow.......
