Default Fish First in Oregon

I am very interested in Fish First , headed by Gary Loomis and gang.
It was amazing speaking with Gary about all of the obstacles he overcame, and I sincerely believe that we can do, on our Oregon rivers, what the Fish First accomplished on the Lewis.
I'm going to put my heart and soul into trying, anyway.
Please, attend the meeting, Wednesday, at the Spaghetti factory, and I am sure you will learn a ton, and become inspired by the speaker.
For more info, CLICK HERE!
I'll see you there, right?

Also.... Who might have REAL time to put into a team like this? If you are interested, contact me.
Jen

Now, wait just a minute . . .

How come your "I'm gonna pout" response is posted earlier than your original post?

Give us a chance here!

zzzzz I think I have a vacation hangover.
Tired, too sensitive and bummed I have to get up and work every morning now, instead of latte, fresh orange juice and touring.
Hey wait! I don't have to work today! Bill is taking me on the Nehalem!

Hi Jen,

I belong to and have worked with Fish First. It is a very dedicated group that work on some outstanding projects. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to go and listen to what Gary has to say. He is very excited about the projects that Fish First has done and the projects that are in the works. Gary has a lot of great ideas that have worked on the lewis and we can apply a lot of the ideas to the rivers here in oregon. I think Bob Toman is approaching the Clackamas river with the same ideas that Gary has used on the Lewis.
Bright Hen belongs to Fish First and she is planning on attending the lunch. If we can get a program like this started in Oregon, we are willing to help contribute.

I too am a member of FishFirst and recommend it highly. Anybody who fishes the Lewis can attest to its effectiveness. Foes of hatcheries really need to study this group and its success.

Hello...

The Spaghetti Factory is in John's Landing...ON the Willamette River, just south of Downtown on SW Bancroft Street.

If you've ever fished in the Willamette, you'd know what I'm talking about. It looks like a very large House with a Blue roof and Big American flag.

I'll be there!
First new person to decide to go (not new to ifish or steelheaders, but just someone new that is on ifish that makes the decision to go) and post it here, I'll bring a grab bag of goodies for you! Hooks, K13s, decals... what else? Fishing toys!

Takers?

Jen

Had a great time at spagetti factory, Gary Loomis is inspiring. We do need to look into this program more. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Ours seems to be needing help, Gary's doesn't. I would be willing to put in some time. Nice to see some ifishers there. Only one lady though, good to see ya Jen.

Gary Loomis and Fish First provide an inspired vision of what we can do to help fish. The projects aren't rocket science, just little things like improving stream habitat by adding root balls, digging side channels, replacing spawning gravel washed from a stream by a splash dam, throwing adult carcasses back into the river to provide sufficient nutrients for the things smolts need to feed on, and improving culverts to let fish pass throughout the entire run. Lots of little things with big rewards. I'm on board!

Talking with Gary after the presentation, it was clear that the planning he (and others) puts into these projects can be the tough part. But using financial contributions to leverage other money, soliciting donations of services, equipment and materials and keeping the goal of "Fish First" in focus, this group has done remarkable work. Three cheers for the example Fish First provides! Let's pull together and get busy building on this legacy!
