TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
Fished the lower Rogue Bay Wednesday with my father and brother n law..
Great day..
Dad started the day off by landing this 53# pig.
our biggest down there... this monster slammed a herring spinner bait with a green tiped blade.
Dad followed that up with a smaller 38# slab..
this picked up a gold blade w/ chart. beeds..
we actually had a double on at one point, and didn't get either fish in the boat...
we did manage two more in the high twenties,
and a jack and lost a smaller 20 ish buck right at the boat....
Great day on the Rogue Bay...
We heard of a couple 40+ caught. Lots of fish were being caught.... and lots of people..

Re: TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
Hey TH - what's the skinny on that fishery? Are you fishing a river or salt? I don't know anything about it.
Nice fish. Looks like you put the hurt to them.
Email me if you want to keep it private.
Parker - Darn clueless when it comes to any and all OR fishing.

I'm moving to Gold Beach, I'm moving to Gold Beach.....
Those are the nicest chinook pics I think I've ever seen posted here. 53 and a 38 in the same day doesn't happen very often!!! You and your father will treasure that day for a long, long time.

Re: TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
No secerts Parker.. especailly for you, I like your imput... and your pics of the week
Anyway,
This is a bay/River fishery.. the fish come in on incoming and go back out on the outgoing. With the warm water very few are actuallyheading up river. We are within two miles of the ocean. Very shallow water under 15' very warm, 68-74 degrees.. tons of people (not too bad on the weekdays) we troll herring, herring spinner baits which are nothing more than a blue labed herring cut a bit shorter with a few chart. colored beads in front of the front hook and a small spinner blade.
We actually hooked 8 fish, from 12pm-7pm, had a bouble lost them both :depressed: and another in the low twenties right at the boat.
Last night when the fog rolled in we put out a couple gold spinners and hooked 3 fish in three passes..
The majority of guides and locals fish anchovies spinner baits, (Rogue Baits) I have never had much sucesss with them so I stick with what I feel comfortable with!
We saw lots of fish caught and it will stay like this through the end of Sept. and Oct. is when all the coho come in.. I swear every coho in the ocean heads up the Rogue in Oct. We had 20 fish mornings last year with hatchery coho going 16 pounds.
Most people shy away from the Rogue due to the hude crowds that fish th ebay in the summer months. Probably nothing more,if as crowded as Bouy 10..
Its a great fishery! One of my favorites

Re: TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
Nice catching TH, you obviously have done your homework......you deserve a A++. When your rigging the herring, is the lower hook a trebble or large single? And are you using green label herring?
That's got to be some kind of fun. How are the seals? With that many boats and fish around, there are usually a few seals practicing early release.......see any fish lost?
Man O' man, wish I was there...thanks for sharing.

Re: TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
Thanks guys...
I actually just got back from another trip down south this morning.. took my boss and his son and brother who is in from Texas..
We hooked two landed one about 26#... lost another right at the boat 30+.. I actually hooked it on the let out.. didn't get a great hook set... not a good combo...
anyway it shook me right at the boat before I could get it in the sack :depressed:
I'll try and post some pics after my nap (I wish) the kids want to head to the lake and do some wakeboarding..
I did see ifish's very own, "The Rogue" he boated two I believe, probably only 10 fish caught on the incoming tide this morning.. nice jobe Kyle! I have a good shot of him in action too that I'll get up..

Re: TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
You bet snagly! anything for you..
TH 1023c 8'6" 12-25# mag taper, xfast.
Shimano Calcutta 400
25# High Impact saltwater Hi-Vis green line.
40# Maxima UG leaders, 6ft in length.
dual 6/0 Gammies in black.
plug cut blue label herring straight or
spinner baits,
for our spinners we using
2/0 VMC conecut saltwater hooks.
six 8 mil. chart beads, (one red in the middle,we cal this the bleeding eye)
chart tubing to keep the hook right in the blade zone.
blades-- gold w/ chart tip, rainbow, white w/ chart tip, and solid gold.
2oz, about 50ft out.
16" lead droper, off a wire spreader, that we also make.,.
one of the fish today came off of the gold blade w/ chart tip the other off of a herring spinner bait. One thing we have found is that the herring spinner baits spin better if they are cut a little shorter than normal.
What did I leave out?

Re: TH and his 53# Rogue Bay hog
(posting from a relative's PC in Gold Beach)
TH......Totally awesome fish!!! Sweet boat you've got as well!
We ended up with a 28 and a 33 today, both on the morning tide above the bridge. We played bumper boats in the jaws on the outgoing, lots of fish caught, but we couldn't come up with one there.
Lost one fish on a spinner first thing, can't figure out how it came unbuttoned!! Had one more take down in a flurry of jacks being caught, probably why it didn't stick. Then had a weird thing happen....my rod layed out in the holder, line screaming off the reel, a huge fish came flying out of the water (40+), and then nothing!!! Reeled in, my lead was gone, lead-line broke at the dropper swivel. I'm guessing the darn thing got hung up in the dropper line and went beserk!!
At the fish cleaning station...had a 3 person boat come in with a 37, 34, 33, 29, 24, and one jack. WOW!!
This is just awesome fishing people. If you can, go now, before they monkey with the water coming out of Lost Creek Reservoir sometime after the first of August!!
