1. Deer
2. Elk
3. Bear
4. Cariboo
5. Antelope
6. Emu
7. Aligator
8. Frog legs
9. Goey Duck
10. Ostrich
11. Wild Rabbit
12. Grouse
13. Moose
14. Sea cucumber
Got to be some I forgot anyone else try some unusual foods.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
I've tried a strange one ... live sea slugs - a Korean delicacy. I doubt I'd volunteer to do it again.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
Most of the above stuff and ...
Monkeyface eel that we poke-poled from the rocks under Golden Gate Bridge (a fishing subculture if there ever was one).
Eastern US groundhog/woodchuck
Rock oysters/piddocks (some sort of rockboring barnacle-like creature)
Certain barnackles, taste like lobster.
Merganser stew ( a tale too terrible to tell other than my verrrry hungry dog growled at his bowl and refused it)
Peacock, the other white meat.
I'll probably add to this as other repressed culinary memories surface.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
Being from the south fried brains and eggs did'nt seem out of the ordinary. Living in SoCal for many years, tongue was faily common at the mexican joints, and tripe is an ingredient in menudo. But a chinese friend took me to a place and amongst other "things" fried chickens feet seemed the wierdest. More coating than meat.

In South Africa I had monkey brains, elephant, zebra, fried worms, etc.
None of it was very good, but it was quite an experience.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
I worked in Japan for 3 years. I figured while in Japan, eat like the Japanese do:
dolphin
whale
horse
turtle
sparrow
sea urchin
many different types of fish roe
many different types of mollusks
seaweed
several different types of roots
cuttlefish
fugu
I'm sure there's lots more, I'm probably glad I can't remember them all any way. Believe it or not, most of the things tasted pretty good. Well, except for some of the fish roe.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
BBQ'd turtle was just flat out nasty. It kinda tasted like the smell of a pond. Worse than one of *********'s Columbia River Shad I once tried eating.
Alligator was surpsingly good, as was the rattle snook.
Every now and then I fish with an old Cambodian dude named Sauk (don't know how he spells it, but it's pronounced sock). He calls sparrow, "yardbird".
"Hey Paka, you ever try yawhbir (that's how he pronounces it)? Have to get them before cat does"!
Excuse me, Sock????

Re: What unusual food have you tried
In the Amazon jungle I ate a live, squirming grub about the size of my thumb. Tasted like a coconut mashmallow. On that same trip I was blessed by a local medicine man. The blessing ceremony included drinking some type of warm bark juice. The reason it was warm is because the bark had been chewed and the juice spit back into the drinking bowl just prior to me drinking it. The blessing must have worked because I didn't get hurt the whole trip.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
During the Gulf War we decided that BBQ was the only thing missing from the camping that we were doing.
By gosh there is a Camel. I wonder how it would taste.
Not to bad. Got to get a younger one that is not so tuff.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
While in Africa I got to try a few off the wall (to me anyway) foods, all of which were great.
1. Crocodile Tail (Reminded me of sturgeon)
2. Kudu (antelope)
3. Ostrich
Another you can enjoy on your next Salmon trip is salmon cheeks. Just cut them out, rinse it off and pop it in your mouth. umm umm If you like sushi or sashimi you will love it. These are best FRESH as they stiffen up if you try to eat them later.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
Didnt see anyone mention Haggus (SP?)
I tried it at the scottish games on year. Actually not bad, like a big sausage until you hear whats in it! All sorts of Inards and oatmeal baked inside a sheeps intestine.
Oh and my avatar, Vegemite. God aweful stuff until you get used to it. Now I love it on toasted bagels. Tastes like the saltiest anchovy and Soy sauce you've ever had. Made with concentrated brewers yeast.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
Well when I was young and got my first BB gun I was told to only shoot out back at the rifle range. Well as a kid that got boring so I moved on to shooting live things. Well the first time my dad see this it was to the wood shed and then I was told that if your going to kill something that means your going to eat it you just don’t kill for the fun of it. Yes I eat that black bird and I didn’t learn that time it took me mean years to figure it out here’s my list.
Robin
Blue jay
Crow
Finch
Wood******
crow
Rattle snake (which I like)
Gofer
Chipmunk
And I don’t know all the bird’s names but there where a lot more I just didn’t get it. In the summer time my dad would spend all the time out shooting the birds out of the cherry trees but if I did it (ok there where no cherry’s in December) I had to clean it cook it and eat it ALL.
And most of the above. I did know this asian guy and with out me knowing as I ate it DOG it sad to say it was not all that bad I wont do it again just cause I like my dog a live.

Hmmm.... Interesting stuff.
Sorry, non fishing related... Just had to.

However, on the way back to the room, I thought, "what the heck?" and put 5 dollars in the machine. Came back to the room with 125.00!!! Can't beat that!

Re: What unusual food have you tried
In Viet Nam with Navy SEALS we often replaced C rations with grilled Monkey Meat and barbequed water Buffalo. There was not enough Catsup in all of Viet Nam to kill the taste of Water Buffalo, but we liked the texture of real meat. Also in the Phillipines they sell Monkey Meat(barbeque) on a stick. Not too bad on the terriyaki flavor

How about over 36 different species of wild mushrooms, including boletes, morels, hedgehog, chanterelles, bears claw, oysters, prince, milk caps, pink bottoms, and chicken of the woods. I've tried them all and plenty more. Never been sick, not even a stomach ache.

Re: What unusual food have you tried
I grew up in a VERY small town on the east coast, and our sportsman's club would have a game dinner every year in Jan. Some of the samplings from the potluck were:
Skunk
Woodchuck
Red & Grey Squirrel
Possum
Racoon
Carp
and my favorite(not) pigeon!

Closest I've come is when my sandwiches taste like my bait when I'm out fishing. Almost makes ya look at those scent bottles at the tackle store and consider them condiments.
Okay, maybe not...

I was in Central America some years ago. Order a beer at any bar along the coast and you get a free bonus, consisting of shot glass with a raw turtle egg, lemon and tobasco. Its a violation of every law to collect turtle eggs on the beach, after choking that thing down I dont think they need the law!
