Default aux. fuel hookup?

I'm looking to extend my range without breaking the bank.
I have an input on my fuel filter base thats plugged, I was thinking that I could put a hose on it going to a quick disconnect fuel connector and keep it coiled up under the splashwell, then go to an aux. tank when needed.
1. Would this cause any problems?
2. Do I need shut off valves, on one or both?

any help would be appreciated

Better talk to a mechanic on this one. If you don't have some sort of backflow arrester, your big motor will suck air at higher speeds. This causes erratic fuel flow and resultant poor performance.

What you propose sounds reasonable. I would add a ball valve for a shutoff.

If you run hard like Capt. Hook says the quick connector will leak air, foul up your fuel pump and cause performance problems.

I'll talk to a mechanic, but I assume I would need to put a ball valve on my main line as well.

thanks

i would put a 3 way valve on the fuel water seperator inlet side, then you can switch the valve and draw fuel from either source, i would not just tap into a fitting on the filter that is not being used, your asking for trouble if you do that. one 3 way valve is all you need.
