Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
OK,
I have done a little investigation & here is the latest...
Scappoose Marina (Not Good...Talked to the Kayak Shop) they said someone was attempting it right now and they were stuck on the ramp...
Spoke to Fishermans Marine and a guy there from East County said don't attempt Chinook Landing...
Cathedral Park & Fred's Marina - No information but I definatly would not attempt Cathedral due to the steepness of the Ramp and the Hill...
This whole thing is looking bad....
Looks like the NFL Playoffs is a good thing tomorrow...
Bernie - Maybe we should Postpone till next Saturday
Safety should be #1 priority here people and I don't want to see any rigs in the water....

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
any chance 20lbs of rock salt distributed today will help a launch by tomorrow?? What if any would be an adverse effect of trying this?

Sturgeon 42- Do a little recon will ya and let us know how Cathedral Park is. With the higher temps and the rain that we got yesterday and last night, I think Cathedral Park should be fine.

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
Fshklr,
Nice thought but what about the parking...
I spoke to the Lady out at Scappoose Marina and they are actually not opening again today...
She said the parking lot was thick with that ice stuff...you know what thats been like...
I want to fish as bad as anyone but if it is not safe and people can't park without getting stuck...we should just postpone till next Saturday...These things happen and I for one don't want to see anyone stick a rig in the water or not make it up that hill at Cathedral park or just basically get stuck somewhere they don't want to be...
I know...this really S---S
One other thing...How is Cornelius Pass Road

Good points KHH,
totally missed the mental picture on the parking and the hills (duh) as I sit here again today in lieu of fishing. :depressed:

I don't want you guys to hurt your boats, or get hurt. Please put it off till next week! Besides, it's fun to read your trash!

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
I'll wait and see how today goes. Melt snow, melt!!! I think I could do a ramp, it's towing in the snow, don't like the idea of a fishtailed trailer with boat. Still have high confidence I can sneak out. Steelheading is a back up, but coastal river will likely be blown out, so that leaves local rivers. I'm fishing though, for sure.
Fall river guy is on the way over from bend, and safety chain and redbull are pacing like tomcats.

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
maybe they meant here in Corvallis where it really is 50 degrees. Snow has been gone for 2 days down here.

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
Right now my the bow section of my boat is still full of snow and ice. Also the snow and ice is still up to the axles on my boat trailer. If things don't improve a lot today TEAM BANANA will pass for tomorrow. :depressed:
However if anyone is equipped to launch and has an extra seat I would like to be a part of someone elses team.

Everyone...
Tacklebuster has another suggestion going on another thread right that is a good idea...
Lets all bring shovels & salt and clean up Cathedral Park...
It won't take long with all the sweat equity we can put into it

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
All,
Just spoke to the people down at Freds marina...they finally opened
That place is definately a no go as is Scappoose...
They said it was a sheet of ice and they definatly would not suggest launching there tomorrow unless you want your rig in the water...

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
I drove to Scappoose Bay this afternoon to check it out.
First off Cornellius Pass is closed due to downed trees, telephone poles and powerlines and the guy at the road block said it probably would not be open by tomorrow. The road was bare pavement til the very summit then it was rutted. I never had to put it in 4-wheel mode.
I made the long trip around on the freeway. Looking accross the river at Cath. Park it looked pretty nasty. It seems that area of Hwy 30 was hit the hardest. The Scappoose Bay launch did not look that bad. There was a thin layer of ice with snow under it. Looks like someone tried to launch and did not make it as the ruts stopped half way down. From what I saw I thought that ramp looked doable... I am still considering going in the AM as it will be the only day I have to fish in the next 10

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
I own a DB and I am going to give it a try tomorrow on a Columbia trib (short ramps less weight pulling the rig down). I live on the west side and it is very frustrating being stuck by this weather and seeing the roads improve while hearing bad reports about the boat ramps for the Columbia. I hope everbody who gives it a try has a safe day. Wishing you all the best.

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! I am staying home tomorrow and waiting for the weather to be better and the boat ramps to be open without the possiblity of damaging my boat, truck or worse someone.
As I get older I seem to chain up faster and walk slower and even stay home alot more when the weather turns bad. I dunno if i wiser and smarter. But surviving to fish another day is well worth the wait.
Peace and be careful

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
No problem launching and recovering today at Scappoose Bay. About 15 rigs and trailers in the parking lot when we launched.

Re: Ramp Misery (Saturday Looks Bad)(3 Reports)
Hey, my wife is back home after being out of town for the last week and leaving me with the "Mongol horde," . . . aka our three kids.
The house is warm. The fireplace is toasty. The spa is hot.
Does "launching and retrieving, have anything to do with "offshore drilling?"
