Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
GI Joes by default, I live less than five minutes away from it, and it's a good place to go when I just need to have something fishing. However, aside from a few standby kwikfish, when you want something special, FMs or Bobs usually has the stuff first. Although, I did notice at my second trip to Joes today that they had new Kfish in!

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
For North Puget Sound
Three Rivers Marine and Tackle in Woodenville of course! (guys that sell boats and tackle that actually fish and use what they sell!)
For South Puget Sound, Sportco in Fife. Sportco is a VERY bad place for out of towners to visit. And please, don't pester that nice Bill Herzog working there.

Fisherman's without a doubt.
I would say that my favorite (globally) is World Wide Sportsman in Islamorado, Florida (Bass Pro Shop). Imagine a store that's the size of a Fred Meyer that sells just saltwater fishing equipment.

Englunds for offshore tackle. Fishermans for other stuff. West Marine, not really a sporting goods store, is fun too.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
BC's outpost for bait. Fisherman's marine for tackle, and Sportsman's warehouse for hunting and shooting.
Fisherman's marines bait quality is poor but has a good selection of tackle and electronics at reasonable prices.
GI Joes has fair to poor selection of tackle but the service is extremely poor.
BC's outpost is next to Fisherman's Marine in Oregon City and has the best prawns in town but their prices are high.
Sportsman's Warehouse has great prices and selection in shooting and hunting depts but the fishing dept. is a joke.

Wal Mart
Bobs comes in a real close second though followed by Fishermans, Sportsmans, BC Angling and then Joes.

River City Fly Shop in Beaverton. Best selection of fly tying material you'll find anywhere! The owner Don Nelson is one heck of a nice guy too! He recently started carrying First Cast Jigs new beaded flies.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
I can't believe non of you mentioned my favorite place to buy goods. GREAT AMERICAN TACKLE that's my #1 spot to buy. Gary has it, or he will get it for you. Yes he is a little more expensive, but he has only one store and it is a small store. I go for supporting the little guy. Yeah fisherman's and sportsmans is cheaper, but Gary gives you one on one attention and he cares about his customers.
So I guess my spot is Great American Tackle.
1. Great American Tackle
2. Bob's
3. West Marine Products
4. BC Angling post
5. Fishermans

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">You could say the same thing about Bob's in Longview.
Those are probably the two most impressive sporting goods stores in the Pacific Northwest as far as I am concerned.
Aunty M if you haven't met Jeff Johnson out of Sportco who is one of their rep's that sales wholesale to sporting goods stores, he is a class act.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
I live in Longview and I may be biased but I vote for Bob's. Great selection, nice people, good prices, and they are well stocked. Brad and the boys (and girls) have done a great job turning that place in to a great sporting goods shop. I like FM and Sportco too. Cabelas is nice. Ebay is one of the best places to find a good reel at a discounted price - if you don't mind waiting for the right reel to come around.

Well since I live in Longview and don't even know where fishermans is at....I'ld have to say Bob's I just wish they would stay open a little longer, hard to catch em open when you're on the water from daylight till dark. However I was in Ace hardware for a totaly un fish related reason last week and noticed they have quite the selection of KwikFish.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
The problem I have with sportsmans warehouse is they stock a general selection and not too specialized, well except for the bass selection. Its almost like the manager is given a list of the stuff he can sell and cannot stray from it no matter if there is not much bass fishing and more steelhead fishing?????
Oh and just for the record I like Bob's too, its just alittle bit farther of a drive from Boise, Idaho then FMS.

The only negative thing I can say about Cabelas is that I prefer to see folks spending their money and keeping it local and supporting the local folks.
It doesn't help the local economy's by sending your money back to the mid west.

Arc Burn, I dont' care much for their tackle selection (unless you are a Bass fisherman). Over in Bend I think you will really like the store because they do have teriffic selection of hunting equipment, clothing shoes, etc.

Stout's in Salem or K-Mart
Ok but it all started at Foster's Sporting Goods in Dallas. I was just a young kid but I would look at the oakies and Fenton Fly's and wonder what those were for? It was like I was in Heaven before I even knew what I was looking at. I just found peace and tranquility there.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
Without a doubt Great American Tackle. The store is small, but stocked with pretty much whatever you need. Gary is very helpful. Personalized service and if he doesn't have it, he will get it for you. I can't say enough about how strongly I feel about supporting an independently owned business like this.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
Another point about Cabela's.
How often do you shop at Cabela's and they show you how to rig-up, when to go and where to go catch these pacific northwest salmonid's, rockfish and other species.
The next time you get one of their sales rep's or computer's on the phone, ask them how, when and where you can catch a lingcod in Depoe Bay.
Then ask them if they know where the hell Depot Bay is!
Save a buck or two folks, think of your local stores that are taking care of you.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
Usually wouldn't take sides in this, but a "bad" experience is motivation.
Went to a non-ifish supporter on 82nd because they are the closest to my home. Got 30 corkies.
When I got to the counter I told the clerk I had 30 and was told "I have to count them". He counted them in the bag and then said "I am sorry sir I must charge you for 31" in a voice that suggested I was a felon trying to get away with something. Now I was hot - I made him put them on the counter and count them one by one - there were 30.
Have not been back since and the extra few miles to visit my friends at FMS-OC is well worth it !!!

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
I don't know what store it was that you had this bad experience but maybe the employee thought he was doing his or hers job and made a mistake.
I sure wouldn't hold one bad experience against an astablishment because it might have been a fluke.
I'd give them a second chance at least.

I second Outdoor Emporium in Seattle. They are moving and opening a larger store South of Safeco field. Or GI on sale items.
Good staff and the prices are good.

I can't believe I forgot Great American Tackle. Great shop and Gary does give you very personalized service.

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
depends on what I am buying.. staple stuff like hooks, swivels and such I goto wal-mart. for more specialized stuff and advice I go to Bob's... went to FMS to get line put on my reel and was ignored by 3 clerks for 15 minutes and will probably never go back I wish some one would open a tackle shop here in St Helens

Re: What is your favorite Sporting Goods Store?
Fisherman's and GI Joe's, mostly cause they are both within a couple of miles of home.
I thought I would I hear a lot of Sportsmans Warehouse. My experience has been that it is a fun place to look around but I usually haven't found what I want at the time and when I do it is usually more expensive than Joe's or FMS.
