Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
Has anybody been to Cathedral Park, or Cateriller Island to see if anyone can get to the ramps or if the ramps are useable?
From where I sit it doesn't look to good for launching tomorrow.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
Looks bad right now for tomorrow. Need to see what happens with the melt off today and I think everyone can make the judgement for themselves whether to launch or not. Gonna be interesting.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
There are a couple of reports on ramp conditions on some other threads. Cathedral was unusable as of yesterday PM. Sturgeon42 should give us an update later today.
Call me a winnie but unless I hear different, I will find something else to do tomorrow. :depressed:

Yup - here too....looks like Team Cast and Blast will just be Team Blast tomorrow unless we can locate decent CR bank access near Clatsakie.
Ducks should be flyin' tomorrow...and landin' in our spread.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
My buddy wanted to go Duck Hunting yesterday morning. He went to a bunch of ramps to try and get out. No go. They were all shut down. Maybe with the new weather things have changed.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
I was thinking we'd bring extra rigs with some chains and studded tires to help in the event the ramps are bad. It all comes down to how warm and rainy it gets today to melt more snow. The biggest problem is the windy cold weather is along the river, so it's the last place for snow melt. I'm still really hoping to get out though, the boy and me are really getting ansy, and my new boat is begging to catch me a fish.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
Anyone close to Scappoose Bay launch (Warren) that can check that ramp?

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
I think the 43rd ramp off marine might be a good bet. They have a sheriff station there so maybe it will be a little clearer. Not a bad ride down to kelly point from there. anyone know how marine drive is today?

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
Actually makes launching pretty easy. You will stop when your rear tires hit the water (unless your front tires get there first  ). Pulling back out is the fun part. Don't ask me how I know this.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
I just returned from Scappoose Bay and it is un-useable. Even if you could get down and up the ramp there is all ice at the bottom.
This concludes your 2:00PM Scappoose Bay Recon Report.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
I drove to Scappoose Bay this afternoon to check it out.
First off Cornellius Pass is closed due to downed trees, telephone poles and powerlines and the guy at the road block said it probably would not be open by tomorrow. The road was bare pavement til the very summit then it was rutted. I never had to put it in 4-wheel mode.
I made the long trip around on the freeway. Looking accross the river at Cath. Park it looked pretty nasty. It seems that area of Hwy 30 was hit the hardest. The Scappoose Bay launch did not look that bad. There was a thin layer of ice with snow under it. Looks like someone tried to launch and did not make it as the ruts stopped half way down. From what I saw I thought that ramp looked doable... I am still considering going in the AM as it will be the only day I have to fish in the next 10

I'm planning on going Sunday....maybe Scappoose, maybe Cathedral, depending on reports from tomorrow.

Re: Boat ramps for sturgeon challenge.
I called the Sheriff there at 42nd and he just laughed at the idea of launching tomorrow morning for the Challenge. 1.5 to 2 inches of ice melting very slowly.
See ya the 24th
