Default Snag T.V. ?

Sitting here watching One More Cast on OLN there fishing for cat fish. They fight the fish and get it next to the boat as its coming in you can see the hook in the belly, They say well I guess it counts and appear to place two fish in the live well. Does snaging only count with Salmon and Steel head or do diffrent states have diffrent regs regarding this.

You can snag certain species right here in Oregon. I know you can snag, bow shoot/spear, and maybe even net carp legally.

I once noticed the reg on carp. I attempted once to put it into practice for obtaining crab bait. I found that it is harder to snag a carp than to hook it in the mouth. Those hard scales do much to deflect even a very sharp hook. The lips, on the other hand, are quite soft and permeable to sharpened steel.... Just because I found it difficult to do, I spent a few hours trying to snag them. I connected with the hook numerous times, but couldn't penetrate those scales. Yeah, it's legal. No, it's not easy. I would suggest jumping in the water, grabbing the fish, and putting the hooks in by hand, then jumping out of the water and reeling them in as the best method of hooking carp by snagging.

I think you're right on the method Happybrew. They can be bulldogs even when hooked in the jaw let alone trying to bring a big one in snagged and sideways. But I wouldn't want to deal with removing a hook out of one of those stinky things.
In my opinion, I don't see the reverence to the fish as the English seem to have for them.
Use Lemon Joy after handling!!!

In the 80's in michigan they had a snagging season on salmon below the dams. Just a thought.

We used to use pitchforks in the diversion ditches around burns from the Malheur lake. Was a ton of fun. We used the carp to bait coyote's in.

we shot them with a bow and snagged them in kansas and missouri. cabelas sells a little open spool reel that attaches to the front of your bow and arrows that have a spring point and plastic fletching. very easy. snagging carp is also a piece of cake, big treble with a 1 oz egg sinker right below it. both methods are still popular in the midwest.
it was illegal to snag catfish in both states. i believe the only species that were legal were gar, carp, and spoonbill catfish in just a few areas.
