Default Umpqua/Rogue opportunities in July

I am heading down to Tiller end of June and the first 10days of July. What are my fishing opportunites on the Rogue (Cole River hatchery to Rogue Elk) and anything on the South Umpqua? ( Canyonville to Tiller??) I know, check the Regs! We are going to Crater Lake also want to see the Oregon Caves. Any other suggestions for Southern Oregon day trips?
Got kids with me 3 and 14 and they are good and adventurous. Bonus, No problem to leave them at the ranch for a day so the wife and I can got out and play!! Looking for ideas.
Thanks in advance!

John

You might check the regs! I believe the So Umpqua is closed. The North Umpqua should be good for summer stealhead at that time. Diamond Lake has been planted with some nice rainbows.

As long as the river isn't too warm you should still have some great salmon fishing on that stretch of the upper Rogue. I've done quite well up there, if you're banking it just follow the crowds.
It seems most of the guys banking it are lining fish using only a green bead on a 3-4 foot leader. I prefer real biters so I tend to toss eggs. I don't catch as many that way but at least I know they bit. I also like to backbounce small baits of eggs from the drift boat. K15's work well also.

There is generally some great trout fishing if thats your bag. We used to do quite well with a black gnat fly with a red tail behind a clear plastic bubble. Might even find a steelhead or 2 though its a little early. Good luck.

Wow, where to begin.....

Smallmouth in the So. Umpqua.
Chinook still in the upper Rogue. Summer steelhead in the upper Rogue. (over 300 above Gold Rey Dam as I type...)
Quality rainbow fly fishing in the "Holy Waters".
Small stream trout fishing in the upper Rogue and tribs above Lost Creek Dam. (beautiful country and cooler than down in the valley)Trout, smallmouth, largemouth and crappie fishing at Lost Creek Lake. Fish Lake, Lake of the Woods and Four mile lake fishing..... many species available.
For a non fishing hoot take the wife and kids on a one day raft trip, a Jetboat excursion lunch or dinner trip. Check out the Rabbit Ears up above Union Creek, hit Crater Lake via the north etrance and check out Diamond lake on the way... rabbit ears too!
Man, this being truly God's country down here, I could go on and on and on.
Shoot me an email if you would like any more detail on any of this stuff........
Welcome and ENJOY!!!

Hey John, have not seen you since we tipped a couple at the brewery.
Winston Wildlife Safari is a great place to visit.
The Oregon Caves.
The house of Mystery
Crater lake

So many things to do in that country.

How about the lower Smith or Umpqua? I will be camping on a friends property on the lower Smith. Take my sled? Crabbing?

How do I access the smallmouth on the Umpqua or is this a driftboat show?

Stripers?

Thanks for the help.

crabbait,
This is how I fish for smallies on the south River. Not the best method I'm sure but I normally can catch close to 60 smallies a day this way with minimal effort. I've caught some pretty nice ones here too....

I fish in the south river at the Forks (where the north and south become the main)
Across the river from Singleton park. that is the opposite side of the river from the platform that is in singleton park (on the south river at the forks)

Just throw a 3" white jig in the current with an 1/8 leadhead (preferably painted green). throw into the eddies and reel into and across the current.

Fish almost every cast using this method.
