Default San Juan islands

Thinking about a July 4 roadtrip...but have never been to the San Juans. Any suggestions of things to do, see, stay, etc?

I used to do some rabbit hunting on Friday Harbor. I think disease wiped them out though. You might check into it. It was a kick!

Leaving for the San Juan Islands next Thursday. Any tips on a good guide book, charts etc.

More importantly fishing tips and locations. Salmon and bottom fish. The crab are plentiful arn't they? Any tips there too.

No itinerary developed yet. Have 23' cuddy and 5 days or so. Plan to live aboard, cruize around etc. Tie up to a dock, bouy or anchor at night near one of the parks. Eat crab, oysters and resturant food.

How was your trip Cool Texan?

Looking for any and all suggestions.

Thanks,

Kevin

I was there over the weekend. We camped at San Juan county park on the Haro straight side of San Juan island. The whales made an appearance all three days. It was awesome. Sometimes outings without fishing can be pretty cool. My brother and I paddled out to a kelp bed in his kayak and waited for an approaching pod of whales. They came up only 20 feet from our boat (we never approached them and knocked on the hull to let them know we were there.) We even got a spy hop from one of the females. Very cool. I saw quite a few boats out fishing but don't know what is running right now. I just had a great time watching whales and hanging out. There are a couple of fee buoys at San Juan county park or you could also moor at Snug harbor resort if you wanted to check out that side of the island. I would call ahead and make arrangements if I were you.
