Default Optimax?

Okay everyone has beaten-up the Sportjet, what about the Optimax? I thought this sounded interesting..."The Mercury 200 OptiMax Jet Drive also comes standard with a “Hydro-Surge” automatic clean out system. The Hydro-Surge automatically clear weeds and grass from the intake of the jet, while keeping the rocks and larger debris out without turning the engine off."

Boater!!! The Optimax is an option because of it's lower emissions. Some manufacturers are going with a 4.3L or 5.7L vortec engine for the same reasons, but prefer the reliability. The 175 SportJet is probably going away since it is a "dirty" engine.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but the Optimax is a version of the Mercury "big block" engines. I believe it comes in 150 to 225 hp., or something very close. It has nothing to do with the installation of a jet pump or prop. I do know for a fact that the spark plugs for the Optimax cost $32.00 EACH! (Times 6!!)

As I said, someone may know something about the term Optimax that is not related to the Mercury engine, but I have not heard of a jet unit called Optimax. I have owned a Mercury 200 hp jet for 22 years.

With caution,

Rusty
