Default New Sturgeon Boat Reel

I am looking at purchasing a new boat reel for sturgeon fishin'. Just thought I would get a few opinions on what is thought to be the best.

There was a good discussion about sturgeon reels a few days ago. It started as a discussion of bank sturgeon reels, but much of the information is general and would help you consider your options.

Check it out here.

Fishhawk

Depends on how much You want to spend. I prefer the PENN 320 and 321's for performance. Cost is about $70. They hold about 350# of 40lb test mono

In a levelwind the Diawa 47-h is THE reel.On a regular( I say regular because I don't believe that a sturg reel should have a levelwind. My wife does not agree, so she gets the 47)reel the Diawa 50-H is king of all sturg reels.Holds about 450-475 yds of 80 tuf(if you wind it in tight).Have never seen or heard of a mechanical failure in either of these models.Cannot say that about the most popular sturg reel the 320 gti.Yeah it's more line than you need for peelers, but you can bust off quite a bit then put backing on under it and keep going without having to replace 50 bucks worth of line.Lasts about 1 season extra this way.And thats fishin hogs 20-30 days a year.
See you on the rivers.
Mark.

Get the 47Sh, it's a high speed reel. You'll thank yourself.

The Penn 320/321 can't be beat for the money. If you really want to go fancy go with the Oluma Titus T-20L, 590 yards of 25# and only 154.00
