newbee here, how about a story
Hi there,
Have you ever took a southern boy fishing? Last year I took "Jim" out in the mouth of the Cowlitz and anchored next to Sturgeon Dave. Now Jim brought a med and X-heavy rod and the biggest tackle box I've seen that is not bolted down. Then there was his thermos. You Know the one. Round; metal; top missing, and dented.
He put out his big rod and we watched Dave have the Hot pole catching fish after fish right next to us. Jim got the fisherman's itch and pulled the other pole out. That had to be it Right!
Now my boat is only 17 feet long. Jim had one pole in the holder and one leaning up to rig. His tackle box was open; the plano that is 2 feet long and has about 5 layered trays. Bait was out and extra hooks. HIS POLE WENT DOWN! The fish was 30+ lbs. and he stood up sending tackle everywere. I cut us loose and he fought the fish while I... started my 1967 kicker, picked up tackle, broke down the extra rod, dodged hooks, got the net, and closed the plano box kicking it between the seets. Did I foget anything? Remember the ROUND thermos. Yea I planted my foot and sat down right on the pole holder. I cought my foot under the transom saving myself from the bath. I can say that Jim was able to show the lady at the dock the Darkest smelly king of the day. He is now retired and heading for the Gulf of Mexico. Sturgeon Dave had a good laugh and I was sore. BUT...I have a brand new 4-stroke kicker!
Thanks for your time; good fishing!
We went springer fishing 3/10 and wouldn't you know it I lost a coil in my boat about a half mile from the Willow Grove boat launch. We pulled in close to the Island and threw our lines in so I could look at the motor (waste NO fishing time!) and by buddy's pole went down before I got the tools out. About 20 lbs of beautiful spinger. We fished there but no more fish. Took a long time to get back to the dock with the Kicker.

I took a southern boy fishing 2 years ago. Up on the Deschutes in November.
He caught steelhead, but he also got chased down the river by a cougar. Not so funny but it was at the time when he came running into camp with eyes as big as saucers!("whydidn yall tell me there was panther upnnorth here ya sona@%#&*%!'s)
Welcome aboard!

Welcome Aboard that was a great story. I enjoyed the story about the panther. It was in your story or one of the posts???I use to spend a lot of time up on the DESCHUTES fishing and guiding but that was a first to read about a panther .Back to your post, it was funny and enjoyable reading: party:
