North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
The date is set in stone now--April 3. Water Ready! along with S.O.L.V. and others through the Adopt-a-river program, will have a clean-up and are looking for volunteers. We did this in September on Labor Day and had a great turn-out.
Anyone with pontoons, drift boats, rafts, kayaks are welcome to participate. It would also be great to have some bank fishermen go to their favorite honey holes and clean them up also.
It is truley un-fortunate, that some have no respect for the river, and these type of clean-ups must happen. :depressed:
I know of some fishermen on this river that are always picking up trash and hauling it out. Got2Fish you Rock!
I will be loaning out my Rapidcat pontoons again for the clean-up. I have 8 of them and if any have interest, please contact me. I know a few have already spoke up, but now that it is firm please contact me again. It would be great if whomever wants to join in would let me know.
Our plans are to have a Bar-b-que at Water Ready! shop after were finished. Maybe we could Bar-b-Que a nice fresh Salmon or 2? We will meet at my shop in Lyons at 9:00 a.m. and coordinate rides and areas. Takes about 3-4 hours depending on how many show. Salmon are coming over Willamette Falls (2) and would would suspect a few more Summers also.
Please contact me at 503-859-3637 or email at waterrdy@wvi.com. Be sure and give me your ifish name along with your name also.
Thanks ahead of time , cause I don't want to miss anyone later. Be sure I get your e-mail address so I can keep you up-dated on any added events for the day.
Until then---Happy Fishn'

That sounds awesome. Thank you for putting this together!
If life gives you lemons, go fishing and pick up trash! (or something like that!)
What fun!

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
5634 registered members on ifish, and probably close to 3000 lurkers, and We only have 1 guy that wants to help clean-up the North Santiam River? :depressed: This post will not die. I know there are locals that are willing to pitch in, but most of them help already.
For most Fishermen/ladies, solitude is on the river enjoying the beauty of the water, tree's and the ambiance of just doing it. Then you look down------  Garbage from others that came to do the same, but could give a rip about the next one thru. Supporting these clean-ups makes others understand that SOMEBODY IS WATCHING!
With the world we live in it's time to find our ambiance through what we enjoy. Time to get tough on trash!

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
Water Ready,
I am going to give it a try, I have a 16' AL drifter, I haven't run any of the santiam yet but I have run the Siletz, Alsea, and Nestucca so I am willing to give it a run. I think it will be a good time to go with many other boats to help me navigate the tight spots.
Which float are you planning.
Thanks for setting this up!

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
Ok here is the deal, I am starting a new job on the 19th @ Wah Chang in Albany so I don't really know what my schedule will be, but if I can swing it I will be there, just let me know what run you will be on. I have a 20' driftboat and have done the Shellburn drift before but nothing above that. Not that I can't, just haven't been through before so if there will be someone that knows the river with us not a problem for me. I will keep an eye out on this post and let you know if I will be able to help.

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
FishOrDie and Crambone,
The run I have adopted is from Mill City to Mehema. But if we get enough support from Driftboaters, like you, then maybe we can spread the river and do more. Would also like to hear from rafters and kayaks also, so more of the upper river can be cleaned also.
Thanks and I will keep you posted.

Just had another Driftboat join in!
That makes 3 driftboats, and 6 Rapidcat Pontoons. Any others before we move to Threads? Would love to hear from some that may know some kayaker's and rafter's in the Salem Area. B-B-que and more at the end!

I need to check my kid's Boy Scout schedule. If it's clear, I'm in too. So from your response on my canoe thread, I would take it a canoe on that stretch isn't adviseable?

One more Pontoon to go! Any takers for the Clean-up. I have other volunteers that will use, but was trying to let ifishers get first pick. So far support is great and other drifters and rafts joining in.

Gathered three more awesome Kayakers today to help in the upper river. I still have one more pontoon for someone that wants to be involved in something very cool. More than meets the eye here. Somewhat disappointed that the Northwest Steelheaders of the North Santiam have not chimed in. :depressed:

Silverhead is the winner! That's all of my pontoons! Very cool. ifish Rocks!!! You won't need bags as S.O.L.V. supplies all of the clean-up materials.
Would still love to get somemore driftboats, that may want to clean-up from Mehema to Stayton.
I know your out there, cause I saw 8 trailers minus their boats at Mehema yesterday. Possibly not ifishers, but am sure more ifishers are out there willing to help clean-up the North Santiam River.

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
The support is growing, and really appreciate all efforts that will be joing in on th 3rd of April.
I floated today to re-con for some that will be going fishing on my toons Thursday. Somewhat disappointed in the amount of Garbage that I saw. :depressed: Picked up some but didn't have a lot of time.
I did see a few fish blast past.
Extremely nice day on the river, and am sure all involved with the clean-up will understand my push to keep it clean.
Again Thanks, and I will be contacting soon. If any others want to join in, please contact me so I can co-ordinate drops and pick-ups. Please contact at 503-859-3637 or waterrdy@wvi.com

My boys and I would really like to participate, but are boat challenged. Maybe we'll clean-up the banks where we can gain access. This is a great cause and we love to fish the river. The boys were complaining about some of the trash they saw last weekend. They packed out half a garbage bag full.

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
Wanted to share and update you all about the Awesome support that ifishers are generating to this clean-up.
Not only the people supporting through posting and joining in, but the many that have sent PM's to me joining in!
The Camel(ifish) recentely joined in along with some of his family.
Some are traveling way out of their way to help out, and really showing awesome support.
Water Ready! is very Grateful to all that are going to help clean the part of the River we adopted plus more.
I also know that this is only one river in the State of Oregon, and we are cleaning a small portion of it.
S.O.L.V has a clean-up Scheduled for the whole state of Oregons rivers very soon. It is called "Down by the River" clean-up.
I am sure many of you live close too, or have a favorite river that you injoy through-out the year. And I am sure that many of you pick-up after others when you go.
But this day of clean-up is about involvement and doing more for the rivers, so some will not try and close us out entirely. :depressed:
Enough Said! ifishers ROCK!
Thanks again and Happy Fishn'

Re: North Santiam Clean-up--Pontoons and more
Wow,
1 week after starting this we have approx. 50 great helpers with Pontoons, driftboats, rafts, and Kayaks. Over half are ifishers. Some I have met some I have not. If you would still like to join in , give me a call or email.
Thanks for all of the support to help clean-up the North Santiam river. I will be contacting all that joined in from ifish soon, and firm up details. The Date is still the 3rd and should be, "feel good about what your doin fun" !
ifish Rocks!

Hey Bruce. I will need a ride in a DB if possible. I hit a few bank spots this weekend, and things are looking great. Nice to see some are keeping things picked up. Had a great day at the SOLV beach cleanup on Saturday. Let me know. Thanks!
