I was fishing with Glenn Pointer at Oregon City in the Lake Line. He had anchored
up in the Lake Line about 5 a.m. that morning. Naturally I showed up after chores
at noon. We returned to his anchored buoy and ate a light lunch. First off we
hooked up with a sea lion and that did not go well at all! Our next bite turned
out to be this fish. The bait, a dark prawn, was on a rig shown to me by Glenn on
a previous trip. It took about 15 minutes to land the fish. Glenn did have a
little trouble getting all of him in the net, but he got it done. Everybody needs
someone to fish with like Glenn.

Dick,
congratulations. My 23.4 pound, 39 inch fish stood as the longest for nearly 2 months. I didn't imagine it would win and I'm glad to see a beauty like yours show up. I was getting worried that there wouldn't be any big fish! Good luck with it holding up until the end of the contest!

Great fish! Coincidentally, it's about the same weight (and probably near enough in size and dimensions) of the current world record steelhead.

So all I need to do is get Roeboat to "work" the picture in Photoshop . . . hum . . . here's my head for Dicks . . . and a white mouth . . . and voila -- my dream comes true!

Awesome fish...how did that get my me? :depressed:

Don't give up guys. I've seen at least 4 fish caught and released on the Columbia that were at least 30-35 lb range. These fish aren't as long as that brute that Dick caught but they appear to be really thick in comparison to length and I'm sure there are 40+ lb. fish going by right now. I broke one off last week that I couldn't handle. Two monster runs before it shredded my leader.

Congrats Dick on a great fish!

Is this for real? It just seems to be a bit fishy!
The depth just dosen't match.
The picture looks like something I can do with a bit of computer magic.

If this is the real thing I'm sorry if I affend anyone.

Pic just looks alterted.

What a huge compliment to call his fish picture altered. You don't see Springers with dimensions like that very often. Nice Fish!

For you skeptics I was out there when Dick landed the fish in Glenn's boat. I also witnessed the weigh-in at Fishermans when he brought the fish in. Believe me, it was all of 42lbs.

I think it looks re-touched only because some areas blur when you reduce the resolution.

Nice fish. BTW..Was the guy who caught it registered as an Ifish member BEFORE he caught it or AFTER??

Just curious.

Awesome fish dick, Now that's a big springer!! I just heard a unconfirmed report of a 58 # springer just caught on the hoh. Anyone else here this rumour? The biggest one I ever heard of was a 55# out of lower clack about 15-20 years ago. i wonder what the record is for OR/WA?

Hi Mission!
He joined ifish afterwards...

That was kind of the goal in the contest, and why I paid money to run the contest.
To encrouage new members to post more info! I thought it would be good ifish advertising.

Rule:

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Maybe I'll buy a rod next year and have a contest for old time members exclusively... You guys deserve it! Good idea?

Cool!
Thanks! So.... what is the next contest?
And for what?
How can we do it for ifishers only? Like, you have to be over a fry, or cutthroat?
Lamiglas gave me a great deal on the other rod, and TH donated the rod for this current prize.

Fishing the West

My wife and I just returned from a trip passing through 11 states....to Minnesota and back, stopping at all of the Cabela Outfitters!" They offer a great selection of any product you might be interested in. However, I see no advantage in ordering from them if the product is available locally. I talked fishing at four of their stores with patrons and employees. Our ifish.net hat and picture of our fish entry was well represented. They were encouraged to check out the web site and/or gain information and insight to Oregon's great fishing, especially at the coast.
It was a fun trip, however, no where did there appear to be fishing as we know it. The opportunity to quality fishing, in my eyes, lies in Oregon and Washington.

Dick

P.S.
Thank you guys for having fun scrutenizing my entry in the fish contest. I pity the poor S.B. that has to raise his hand and claim a larger one. This ifish.net is a neat website as well as informative.
