2002 Gorge best shad spoon color?
I’ve found that each year seems to have a “best” general color for spoons for shad in the Gorge.
I have spoons in many colors, but I’m buying some more and was wondering what’s the one best Dick Nite color combination for shad so far in 2002 in the Gorge?
(I know color can vary HOUR TO HOUR too….so if this year’s hot color combo isn’t working I’ll change colors often.)
We won’t be hitting O.C. this year, just the Columbia.
P.S. this forum is truly one of the best fishing forums on the internet…(& I really like it’s mostly “flame-free” aspect)…good job guys!

Dick Nite brass with red head, triple teaser with green center and my standby is a red head jig with a chart green mini-grub (twister tail). On cloudy days this outfishes most. Smaller the better. (Everyone will have 20 other opinions, this works for me)

Re: 2002 Gorge best shad spoon color?
I have had good luck with the wee dick nite's in chartreuse/white and red/white. Better luck with small chartreuse gig heads and a small green curly tail grub. My latest and best find is a tip I got here on Ifish. A #5 polished brass barrel swivel with a #6 siwash hook. Drop a 6mm chartreuse bead on your leader above it. Yesterday, up at the shad rack, I gave it a try after having so-so luck on the dick nite's, I couldn't keep the shad off of it. It outfished the other two rods after I switched. I would just drop it off the back of the boat and attempt to walk it back. Never made it very far before a fish hit. Never had a chance to put the pole in the pole holder. Have fun.

When the count's over 120,000 a day, it probably won't matter much.
For me..."colors" work better in murky...low vis water, "shiny" stuff in clearer water.
Have fun!!

Re: 2002 Gorge best shad spoon color?
One thing that has always been important, in my experience, is lots of motion. I like to use a snap-swivel on a dick nite instead of tying directly to the line as the lure wiggles better. I've heard good reports this season of a chartreuse bead above a snap swivel and just a small siwash on the snap.

I know that you might not believe me, but try just green or red yarn. they both caught a high number of shad for me this year so far.
