Default Clackamas Reports?

I'm planning on some bank fishing on the Clack after work today or maybe tomorrow morning. Anyone know of any spots that are working right now? Any particular gear recommendations?

thanks

Move around to find the fish. A good friend of mine got a limit in the middle of the day. Bring lots of eggs, shrimp, etc. They are all over the river.

He was fishing between the mouth and McIver park. I know he was moving around. The guides that I saw were just about all over. The bite is red hot or dead, just hope it's red hot when you are out there.

I've had good luck with #5 and #6 Blue Foxes, silver blade and pink or chartreuse body. Use Smelly Jelly scent on the blade (a light sheen only). Fish them deep, near the bottom (so you're going to lose one or two...) and slow so the spinner blade doesn't turn too fast. When you feel a tug, set the hook and hang on.

Best water for this is a deep pool or run with a current running into it. Fish the current edges and any choppy water where the current slows...

Also, make sure your drag is set properly. Springers can easily break your line if your drag is stuck..

I was fishing bobber with shrimp and eggs above 205 this morning, had one quick takedown. Watched 4 guides land 4 fish in about 20 minutes, in front of me. Take plenty of shrimp and eggs. goodluck

ok,, i have been up above and fished near McIver, but how far (a normal person) can i get my sled up the clack from the mouth? Its 18 foot and a real sled (flat bottom) with 115 jet on it. I was thinking of going this weekend. but am not looking forward to the crowds,, much less haveing to deal with the happy go luck folks near Oregon City.

if anyone knows give me a shout. I also was told to use eggs and shrimp.. is this true???lol

k9

you can take it up to barton no problem. just be careful for other jet boats, drift boats, and recreationalists especially around the blind corners. good luck and take it easy.

Do you know if they are hitting spinners or spoons? I am new at this, and some people have suggested spinners as a better way to start out (easier to feel the take). I was planning on lobbing some Blue Foxes.

Blankman,
Fish will almost always take a spinner or spoon if you get it in their path. I have actually seen a summer steelhead swim close to thirty feet out of it's way to smack my #9 Panther Martin. Eggs or Shrimp is what everyone else is fishing and that is why fish are being caught on them. If you are more comfortable using spinners or spoons then by all means use them many spring chinook and steelhead are caught on them each year.
I have a friend that catches more steelhead a year than most people that fish for them and he is a died in the wool spinner fisherman. He does not even own a drift rod.

If you need a some pointers on fishing hardware e-mail me.
