Default Belated mothers day gift

Since my folks spend half the year in Arizona, this year for mothers day my mom wanted me to take her salmon fishing when they returned home. Well, yesterday was her belated mothers day trip. We fished the Sandy river from Dabney to Lewis and Clark. She had never been in my driftboat before and really enjoyed the peacefulness of floating along quietly and seeing all of the wildlife along the way. Finally about 3 oclock her serenity was awakend by the sounds of FISH-ON, her rod throbbing in the rod holder and she couldn't get it out to set the hook so I grabbed it and set the hook for her. We got out of the drift, set the anchor, got the other rod in and she fought this fish like a pro.........pull up, reel down.........fish runs, lost all momentum gained.......pull up reel down. About 15 minutes later, fish in the boat and it's a beaut. I had to barrow a scale because I didn't bring mine (thanks MadMikey) and it weighed in at a wopping 21 pounds. We fished out the rest of the day with no more take downs but that was fine. This was truley a memorable day for my mom and I, she said we need to make it an annual event for the two of us. She was so excited my dad called me at 10:30 last night to tell me she was bouncing off the walls at home.

isn't life grand...............

Great job Jeff! What an awesome experience. I am so anxious to go fishing. It has been too long. I guess I will have to fish vicariously through you.

Way to go Artwo!!!  Always fun getting people into fish. Specially when it's your mother.

Sorry we didn't see you fishing Saturday morning but we had to do a quick drift as my friend had to be at work by 10:00 am.

Did you see a lot of other boats as well that day or has it been pretty quiet?

Thanks Smiley, I looked for you Saturday.....wondered where you went. I would say that the fishing pressure (number of boats) this time of year is about normal. We fished out Saturday with a group of three/four boats. Saw one fish caught in the big bend hole but that was it, no fish for our boat. It really suprised me that there weren't more fish taken the way the water level was and the water color looked. I can usually find at least one fish, I guess some days are like that.

I'll see you out there soon,
JK

Artwo,

I seen a steelhead caught above the gauge hole and one springer right below the rope hole. A very slow day, We ended up with zip also. A lot of competition between all the boats. I heard someone had a 10 fish day that last week also. I bet you know who I'm talking about.

Nice to put the face with the name, Jeff. However I think the scale got broke when we weighed our fish and gave you a misread....
Wish I could get my mom out fishing!!!

cheers
