Dodge to Oxbow via drift boat!
Anybody have any experience with this. I have a friend interested in running this over the weekend. He is experienced with Deschutes,Upper N.F. Nehalem and other rivers.
I ran this in a raft a hundred years ago and I do not remember the specifics. The pipeline is the only thing that I vaguely remember.
Opinions?
Thanks!

Re: Dodge to Oxbow via drift boat!
I've run that stretch several times in a pontoon. Pipeline rapid is probably the worst with various chutes and boulder gardens throughout.
Re: driftboat - I can tell you I have seen driftboats go through there, but do not know how they manage it. I also have no idea what the current river condition may be (river level, sweepers etc.)
I don't have the number, but I know someone runs a shuttle on the river. If you get no replies, I'd suggest you call fisherman's marine for the number and ask about your run.

Run it with someone experienced in that stretch first if you can. Pipeline is extremely unforgiving if not done right.

A driftboat went down in that section about a month ago.

Re: Dodge to Oxbow via drift boat!
Better off to run Oxbow to Dabney, or Lewis&Clark. If you must go from Dodge, give pipeline a good scout before attempting it. No fish, or stretch of water is worth possibly flipping the boat, or even worse, loss of life. Like said in a earlier post, even some of the most expierienced people on the oars have flipped in that section, some being guides w/clients. :depressed: I went through that section in a raft during the flods of '96, and we flipped. It scared the bejesus out of me, and I have yet to return in a boat. Although, that doesn't mean I wont. Whatever you guys decide, be careful.

The word I've gotten is to go somewhere else if you like your driftboat. Drop Madmikey an email for specifics. He is quite familiar with it.

Check your river levels. Talk with Jack Glass, Mad Mikey and Maroon guide service. They can forewarn you on the dangers. I think that the river is a little too low right now.
Best of luck...
