**$1900**
I just want to get it off my hands!
I'm upgrading and sadly will be selling my trusty Subaru. This is an excellent car for a sportsman, commuter or student. 20-25 mpg in town and 25-32 on hwy.
1998 Subaru Outback Impreza (Sport Wagon)
Miles: 187k
Color: Red
Transmission: 5 speed manual
I am the second owner and bought it from the first owner at 103k miles and at that time it was in IMPECCABLE shape. 85,000 miles later its still in good shape, clean, very reliable and fun to drive. After my last tune-up a month ago the mechanic said it would need a new connector rod sooner than later. Rather than replace it myself I'm just looking to sell this as is since I'm short on time (need a truck before early deer season!). Tires have 90% life left.
What's scaring people off is the connector rod. Let me clarify. It's a small part deep in the engine that is slowly coming loose - the mechanic said if left untreated it would eventually break and the engine would seize up. He said its just started though so he predicted that would happen in about a year, maybe less maybe longer. To fix the connector rod, you have to pull out the engine, basically $1500 fix (mostly labor). The better option in my opinion is to buy a newer used engine and have it installed. You can get them for $400-600 with less than 100k miles (I saw one at 60k last week). Most auto shops will install for $700-900. Basically - it sounds like a lot of work but really if you buy this at $1900 and put another $1500 into it, it will run for a long time and it will be worth a lot more than what you paid for it. I just am too lazy to wait around for any work to be done on it.
And who knows, the connecting rod might last longer than the mechanic thought.
Come by and take a look or test drive if you'd like.
