Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
I've had this happen,
boat rule#99
All found gear remains in the boat, any gear left in the boat for more than 48 hours belong to the boat. which is in diffrence to rule # 98
any gear borrowed from the boat and lost pays double, unless the gear belonged to the boat and not the boat owner. which is not to over rule, rule #1
My boat, my rules. however everything is open to disscussion, rules may be subject to over ruling but never rule out the obivous.
Says the ruler, with that said i prefere to take my boat in which i don't give a *****. if I've got it and you need it take it. if you got it and i need it give it up.
sit down, shut up and fish.
just remember "its all good"

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
Bumper, I need a copy of yer rules! Sounds like ones that every boat owner should have on board.
And Steelie, what river did you say that was on?
In all seriousness, I was on the losing end of a very similar setup a few years ago on the Wilson. A friend's diver and plug broke off while fighting a fish. A guide, fishing downstream but well within sight, as the gear floated down picked it up and put it in his boat. I can't say absolutely that he saw what happened, although he would have had to have been both blind and deaf not to. Anyway, he applied finders keepers to the setup and that was that.
Wasn't worth the argument to try to get it back, but it sure hurt since we knew that plug was effective!
I claim all recovered gear while in my boat, but I would not claim someone else's gear if I knew it was theirs...

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
Ok just like Dad used to do ( If you guys can't work it out than I'll take it) end of story.
I say who ever spots it. Or since I share my stuff with anyone who needss it on my boat it just get's added to the extras box.

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
Small Fry I was reading on one of your earlier posts that you had a bunch of stuff stolen. Do you even have an "extras" box. I think out of sympathy I would let you have it due to your recent run of bad luck. Just like hunting, however spots it gets first crack or two or three or however many it takes to drop it  . Isn't it kind of hard to drive a boat and fish for lost gear at the same time. Seems to me spotters keeper with boat owner having first option to borrow you know...indefinitely.

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
Kodiak, that seems a little different with the hunting. If we saw bucks across the canyon and I had the rig, I would definitely let you buddy shoot first if you spotted them first. And I would certainly drive closer to the kill if it were allowed.
But "boat keepers" seems somewhat logical. After all, I can scan for gear like the other guys get to do or I can stay in productive water by paying attention at the helm. The buds would not catch as many fish if I did that so we all would lose.
But certainly I would apply civility to the matter too. If I had small fry or someone else who had just been ripped off or genuinely needed the gear, sure, that should be an exception to the boat rule.
Besides, most gear that stays in the boat is available to others that may not have their own shiny fickle pickle!
The bottom line is not to about it.

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
While fishing on the Columbia for springers we had a chance to see many divers and kwikfish float by. Usually the one that spotted them was the one that got to keep them. We even picked up 3 that we had to give back. Well we didn't have to, but the owner asked if we would so we did. Just seems like the polite thing to do.

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
Now let's really fire this thing up. Substitute "guide" for "buddy".
Now who gets the gear?! Why is it different if it is?

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
the guide would get the gear, your lunch, use of your car for a year and also would get to cure the eggs out of your fish in your refrigerator.

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
Here's a good one. Bobber fishing for fall chinook. A friend in another boat hooks a large chromer 25 lbs+, beautiful fish. Fish breaks line and somehow continues to tow bobber around the river. Third friend in another boat spots bobber about 10 minutes later with fish still attached. Strips gear off his pole and splices broken line onto his pole. All this time everyone is giving the original fish hooker a clear explanation what he did wrong. Finally "Splicer" lands the chinook. He's elated with his prize. Since we're all friends, he returns bobber and hook to original owner. This really was a great show; especially when "Splicer" was tying the broken line onto his pole without tipping off the fish. Everyone was a winner on this one, especially me since I got to witness the whole show. Absolutely unbelievable, you had to be there.
This story is retold everytime the players get back together---somehow that fish continues to grow. I believe the last time the story was told that fish was in the 45-50 lb. range...........

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
kodiakfisher. Does your wife know you bought a boat???
You funny guy.
As has been proven: Sometime the guy who stays on top of the ridge instead walking to bottom of the deepest canyon get's the first shot, even if it was out of self defence. (I've even heard you use that one. The second shot was a first shot??? you should be able to figure that one out.
As far as the boat: Your going to have to talk to the wife. Maybe some day she'll feel sorry for you' and take us both fishing.
By the way Saturday not looking good :depressed:
still have over 200 feet of trench to back fill.
and the back ani't feeling to good. Know any good doctors?
Call me!

Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
OK, you are out in your best buddy's boat and you notice a nice, brand new, K-15 fickle pickle and Jumbo Jet free floating over by the shore. You call your bud's attention to it and he goes over and you pick it up with his net.
Who does it belong to?
My boat my gear! But I will let the friend who spotted it borrow it !
What do you think?

Re: Buddy trips: Who gets the gear?
If he has a boat and you don't, then give it to the guy who's naturally going to use it more often. Otherwise, being that you are friends I'm sure that you could come up with some sort of contest to see who gets it, from flipping coins to flipping the guy out of your boat for even THINKING that he would get the lure.
