Default Questions to help me help you.

I have avatars turned on. We could turn them off if it is slower to download the pages now.
Many people simply load a large gif or jpg, and let the program reduce it in size. This, however, does not reduce it in K, thus taking a long time to download pages.
Have you noticed a slowing of ifish.net since the avatars?
Would it be good to turn them off, or are they just too much fun?
Seems like for everything cool, there is a price!
Do you notice a slowness since the new design?
Sometimes I think, with a busy board, I'm almost tempted to just go plain jane. Black and white and readable!
But there is a fun factor in this for me!
What's your take?
Jen

Jen,
I like the new look and it is just as fast, or slow, on my end.

I haven't seen any change in speed. I kinda like them.

I vote to leave them on.

I guess you need a reply from someone that doesn't have an "avatars"....no differance!

Looks like people enjoy them so mine-as-well keep them?

when they first came out, i thought "i'll never use them. they don't contribute to the fishing information." shortly thereafter, i uploaded an avatar of myself and then changed it to the skunk (for obvious reasons).

either way, the avatar image gets cached on the pc after it is downloaded the first time so it should have no impact on the overall speed on the board. for those folks who upload larger pictures of themselves, you can copy the image from the web page and paste it into your favorite imaging software and actually see what some of these folks look like, which i think is kind of cool.

overall vote, leave 'em on.

I haven't noticed a speed problem. I have a fast connection (cable modem). I noticed no difference when you turned them on.

Keep the avatars....Gives us sort of an identity.

No loss of speed on my phone line connection....

Keep the avatars, the speed is the same for me. I would recommend that you activate the “previously viewed cookies” that display visited threads in different colors than non-viewed threads. That way I can tell which threads I have visited…
