Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Team Bait Masters was on the water today. Good Times, Good Weather, Good company, not so good fishing. Reports with pics to come.
BTW, Zaq and Bobby. Thanks for all your work organizing this thing. I'm sure we didn't win, but we had a good time and kept our spirits high despite slow fishing.

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Here is the official Team Bait Master report:
John was the first to hook up with this hard fightn' chromer....errr....I mean well colored hatchery steelie:
(Must have been something on the camera lens, almost looks like there is something wrong with John's fish's head )
Rick was second to land this nice steelie:
And I finished up the day with this dandy:
That's strange, the picture won't upload....
Let's see:
.....catch fish,
.....take picture of fish,
.....upload picture of fish and post.
oohhhh, I need to work on the first part I guess
All fish were released to fight another day!

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
As Shane mentioned above, we got 4 of 5 with the largest around 10# that popped off and squirted away before the camera was ready.
First cast of the day brought a nice little hatchery buck.
Here is a pic of one that held still:
The fish we did find were beauties...great day to be on the water. Shane...good day my friend.

What a great day to be on the water
The Doughnut Team Started the Day with a Team Meeting
Then it was off for a hard day of Team Work
Proper rigging of the JigNut
Proper rigging of the WormNut
And the score for River #1
And the score for River #2

Finally - the score for River #3

Tomorrow will be a much better day.
And David - Keep your Bananas away from our Doughnuts !!!

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
OK, so I wasn't in the challenge, but since everyone else is posting chromers I though I'd throw mine from yesterday.
First cast my jig got SLAMMED, I mean, this thing got pounded, it made a 'plunk' sound and made a little splash when the 1/8 oz float went under. after quite a battle on my light float rod, a beautiful chrome 31" native hen slid to the bank. My friend went for a picture and the fish decided that she didn't want to be photographed she she took off, under a big boulder, and broke me off. After tying on another First Cast Jig tipped with a pink worm
I moved about 15 feet upstream from where the native hit, and made another cast to the far side of the hole. Bobber hit the water, went about 2' and dunked under, but immediately popped back up I flipped my bail, the float continued about 1' downstream, and DUNK... gone  . This one wasn't as chrome, but she managed to get on film.
** Background was changed to protect the innocent ** I am not trying to hide anything, just don't want to get flamed for 'exposing' some strangers honey hole. PM if you want river info.

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
team fishlis did not fare to good we went 1 for 1 it was 24 inches long and 15 inches girth. he was a boot and only about 6 or 7lbs so not enough to win. I must add that we fished hard, and the water conditions were less than favorable, this was my time ever using a bobber and jig and thats what i hooked this fish on. hope everyone else had better luck!!

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Let me tell you it was hard to focus on Steelhead when we were getting reports all day about Springers. We did manage a nice hatchery Steelie, if you like them with red heads it lived to see another day....pic will come later.
We seen Tilla out there and he did manage to get a few today, I'm sure he'll post later. Maybe we shouldn't have started fishing at 10am, I guess the early bird does get the worm
Sorry Team Doughnut, I don't have a trophy for funniest fishing report.

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
John & I went 21 for 24 in the last two days. Some great pictures to follow. John has to enter them all in. That may take a while. The biggest of the two day spell was a 38" x 18.5" chrome hen as you will see. Looked to be about 16-18lbs and two chrome 14lb hens as well as a few in the 12lb range. The seducer pink worm is the killer for the big ones today. pics from Magician to follow........... John it must be my lucky cowbay hat today..

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Even though I wasnt offically in the contest for the steelhead challanged, the dog and I did manage to drag out of bed around 10:00 or 11:00 and hit the water with a buddy at about 1:00 to finish off the afternoon on the water. 7 for 9 with 3 clipped and 4 wild landed and released. Ran out of light before we ran out of water.
Good job John, Kevin and Nick them are beauties. I was going to fish where you all were, but couldnt drag my arse out of bed soon enough to get there at a reasonable hour, glad you found the fish.
Now back to springer fishing.

That picture doesn't do the fish justice. I will post a nicer photo today. It was truly a once in a lifetime type fish. Those photos were the only one's of the fish we had. Later today I will post the pics from the other camera.

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Team Cutt Plug managed these two. I don't think we can take the lead unless I could convince you I'm 7 feet tall?
Doesn't matter, the weather was awesome and we had a great time!
Looks like Fishin Magician is lead'n the pack. Great job!

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
W'ed of had the trophy by a mile with the big buck I lost. It went over 42" and all of 20-22lbs. Spit the hook up close to the boat.
Ya Jeff, Most of the fish were caught side drifting, and drift fishing. We did manage a nice 37" hen on one of John's plugs. I just don't have the patience for those plugs. I have to give great applause to John for rowing all day. I tried a half a dozen times to take the oars, but he insisted that I just keep on catch'n em. So I did. They were great fish.

Lund, that line up just is not fair.
Where is the Zog?
Nice fish UG.
I vote we have a summer run Steelhead Challenge.
I will organize it. Let's make it official.
Any takers??

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Wow... Perhaps you should have called it the "Snake Touney"????? J/K It's a tough time of year to smack the chromers although there's a few in the bunch of pics..
Some of them nates are rechroming great..... But there's some nice fish too... Looks to be a ton of fun, wish I could have made it.
By the way I'm not ribbing anyone, just having fun...

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
Ya Keith,
That fish that won the tourney was pretty snakey.
As were about 80% of the fish we caught. But I'm sure you've never caught one. Every river has downrunners in it now. And if you wanted to enter the tourney, it was yours for the taking.
Their will be another one for springers on April 10th. That should give you enough time to check with your girlfreind, or find another one.
James said she wears your pants and hers too.
No bashing here just fun..

Re: Steelhead challenge, Magician laid down the smack
We didn't have all the pictures on one camera. This little spawner was a close second @ 34" x 15.5
I guess the first picture at 14lbs and the second a 16-18lber or so.
Keith thinks these are spawners. ha ha!!
