Re: CRAB\'N?
Got Fish,
We got one crab in Hood Canal along with 455 Shrimp, 108 Oysters, 9 butter clams, and 3 sandshrimp. Not bad for a 24 hour trip.
I'm going back soon to target the crab.

Re: CRAB\'N?
We went crabbing during the week on Thursday the 23 of May and picked up 9 crab. 2 got away, 3 were soft shells, and the last four were harder than rocks. We were able to eat crab lousie's for dinner. That was all we wanted them for anyway. Had to come home on Friday so, for 4 hours of crabbing it wasn't great, but we were able to eat from it.
By the way that was at Tillamook Bay we caught them in. Now that the Springers are in the bay, I would drop your crab pots, and go fish. We heard of 4 fish caught that day, and there weren't that many fisherman. When we talked to ODFW at the dock, he said he heard of four and only seen two. But that doesn't mean they aren't there. Give it a try and let everyone of us here know O.K?

Re: CRAB\'N?
Got Fish,
I usually go to Astoria in the Fall crabbing and take home huge hauls. Don't know of any closures, and there should be crab available now. But, like I said, I haven't been there this time of year. If you don't know the layout of the area, i could e-mail you a chart fragment.

Re: CRAB\'N?
Try canning it, it works pretty good. You boil it and shell it like normal then wash the crab meat in a mixture of 1 quart water and 1 cup vinagar, drain, put into jars add a little sea salt and put into canner. I can get you the directions. The crab keeps its color and the flavor is good (not nearly as good as fresh of course) but the quality is decent and makes for a good crab salad, cracker spread or crab louie. Real nice to be able to open a jar of crab when ever you want to. Freezing and vaccum packing dont work at all, tried that before I discovered canning.

Re: CRAB\'N?
We went 0-fer-5 pots in the Columbia estuary. 5 boats at buoy 20 got zipped too. I think you have to get out further in the salt to find crabs with the fresh water coming down now.

Re: CRAB\'N?
Crabbed Siletz Bay on Saturday. Four hours, seven traps, six-eight sets and we caught hundreds of crabs. Unfortunately, all but three were undersized.
If you are thinking about trying Siletz Bay, learn the channel. It is narrow and only 4' deep at low tide. Lots of stumps, too.
Good luck.
