Oregon Live Fishing Forum, the Oregonian's unmoderated web site, is now allowing people to register names. But they aren't doing anything to protect anyone. Most of the moderator names from Ifish seem to have been registered, but not by the people you know here! Names like Jennie, Pete, Pilar, ******, Thumper and many many more have been captured by ... well, who knows!

Check at this site to see if your name is registered. If you don't want anyone else to pretend to be you on their forum, register ... but don't stick around!

Well i'm not sure what we can do about it. There are quite a few discussion boards out there and it would be kinda time consuming to register with every one. But I also agree with Y'all. Plugs'n'Bugs is something I thought up on my very own (never mind the smoke pouring out of my ears :shocked: ). And I wouldn't want anyone out there causing alot of hate and discontent under the name of Plugs'n'Bugs. [img]graemlins/berry.gif[/img]

You know what the biggest problem is?? Some of us have sensitive careers/jobs within certain areas. There's that possibility that someone posting under MY moniker on the other site could get back to the wrong people, and wrongly instigate me with things that I did NOT say!!

Mine is taken also. It's kind of complimentary in an antagonistic kind of way.

Hopefully, it's just someone who has been "uninvited" from Ifish (or just wishes us ill will) and is merely trying to block us from using our established monikers elsewhere.

Has anyone checked any of the other boards for this practice?

Having checked the privacy policy at Oregon Live, I chose not to register. They share personal information and preventing them from doing so involves Emailing them to opt out and unsuscibing from their spam. Not worth it to me.

Mine is a moniker that is used by others ... a situation of which I'm aware, but there's only one SailCat that has a registered domain ( here, curiosity seekers ).

Oregon Live is a polluted stream which I chose not to enter or visit.

I don't know that this is necessarily some conspiracy. The names are registered for all Advanced Internet sites throughout the country. So if say someone registers Hummingbird at NJ.com then no one else will be able to register that name. For a list of all the sites sharing the same name registrations you can go here.

I'm sure a few were registered maliciously. I don't think anyone else would try to register Jennie@ifish unless they were up to something. But many fairly common names could have already been taken.
