Re: where to launch ??
Maybe at Meldrum Park? If You can find Thomason Nissan fom Mcloughlin Blvd (hiway 99) Turn just north of the Nissan store. Go to River Road and turn right on River Road. Go about 1 block and to your left is the entrance to Meldrum Bar Park. Go 15 mph, the cops are hungry  Go straight west and the boat launch is at the end when you curve to the right. Keep valuables out of the truck, lock it up. Too many people using the stinky potty to have much trouble with break-ins. judyfish99

Re: where to launch ??
gottafish...Ya that's it! You want to play bumper boats, and mess with a bunch of current and people go to Meldrum Bar..NOT.
Launch out of St Johns and fish up stream around Swan Island, actually fish get picked up anywhere between Freds and the Freemont Bridge. Lots of room, minor current even on the outgoing tide and friendly people for the most part. We even saw a nice 22lber at the ramp yesterday that was caught in the area!
Herring and a flasher, or prawns or both at 10 to 15 pulls and your fishin'.
Good luck!

St. Johns: More room to learn with a new boat and a good place to catch fish.

Re: where to launch ??
How bout Scappose bay? Nicer I think than St.Hellens or St.Johns, Meldrum is the last place to launch if you are unfamiliar with your boat. If you launch at Scappose you can hit the big river or the channel. With a Sea Ray you can reach the St. Johns area relatively fast if that's where you want to fish. Just a thought.

Re: where to launch ??
Be carefull at Scappoose bay the channel is tricky...the first time, and it can get crowded.
St. Johns is good and with a boat like that you could run into the big river in minutes.

Re: where to launch ??
IMHO St. Helens is pretty tight especially if there is any wind or current.

Willamette Park off Macadame(sp) ave. Close to the Selwood area. Big Ramp, lot of room, easy launch.

this is oregon state marine guide. It has all boat parks listed. Cathedral park at st john , chinnok landing troutdale , willamette park on macadam are good big boat launches.

Re: where to launch ??
I see you are from Troutdale. This tuesday you can fish for springers above I-5 bridge, so just run down to Chinook Landing for your first launch. Plenty of room to navigate your boat in that area.

Re: where to launch ??
I concur with K9Jeff. Willamette Park is your launch for chasing springers at Sellwood. A large launch with plenty of dock space. Glisan ramp (42nd & Marine drive) is Your easiest access for sturgeon and salmon at kelly point. About a 2 mile run.

Re: where to launch ??
Gottafish...as was mentioned a few posts up, you have a plenty of great fishing in your back yard. (Chinook Landing one of the better ramps anywhere in the PDX metro area.) You can lauch there and within half an hour be down to the mouth of the Willamette at cruising speed.
Sounds like you also need a decent river map. There is a fold up one available at Fisherman's that only costs about $6. It covers from the mouth of the Columbia up to Bonneville dam and up the Willamette to the falls. This is a real navigational aid, as well as useful for finding fishing spots.
There are at least a half dozen spots within a 10 minute boat ride of Chinook Landing that will produce fish as the run picks up. Off Government Island, the mouth of the Sandy and up at Reed Island are a few of the more popular spots.
Good luck and enjoy the new boat. (If you are REALLY paranoid about launching it, you might consider mooring it at either Camas or down near Jantzen Beach.)
