Well I finally made it to Hawaii, after 2 delays and reschedules, I had a great marlin trip and vacation.
Went out with Sportfish Hawaii charter on the boat, Magic, with Cap't Russell Tanaka and deckhand Chris.what a classy crew.Beautiful 50'cruiser, impeccable shape. We had 3 fishermen from Minnesota and 3 from Seattle on board.
We headed out from Waikiki at about 615am and headed north, lookin for the Marlin and tuna that were there the day before. At about 730ish we had our first Mahi-mahi on. First in the chair was a guy named Mark from Minnesota, he has Spina Bifada, incurrable, way to go Mark, way to draw first blood.
We fished on, looking for the big fish. About 9 WHAM, the left outrigger started singing then went dead, just as fast, the right rig sounded off. Line stripping from the reel. Tom jumped in the chair and hooked up the reel for the fight. About 1 minute of cranking and the line went slack, the fish was gone.

Chris said the Marlin slapped the jigs with his bill an hooked the right one . The hooks slid off his bill when he turned.Rats.
We fished on. About an hour later we hooked up a Mahi-mahi. Tom was in the chair again. Cap't Tanaka threw out a baited line behind the boat during the fight and we hooked up a double. What fun.

3 fish in the boat, we heard of Marlin way up north above Pearl Harbor. We fished in that direction.
We ate lunch and talked about fishing in the Northwest and Minnesota.Mark said it was awful hard to troll in Minnesota right now.

That gave us a good laugh. They said it was 35 below zero when they flew top Hawaii.
Well fishin didn't stay boring. We hooked up another Mahi-mahi on the right rigging.MY TURN.Yeehaw.
Line stripping, I'm gettin in the chair, 200yrds of line gone, my heart was pounding.I started reeling as fast as possible and Cap't Tanaka yells out- Mahi-mahi. My heart sank. I started workin the fish as we chased it with the boat.My reel stopped working, can't turn the crank. Cap't Tanaka yells out, your reel is loaded. Now these reels don't have levelwind on them and you have to guide the line across the reel. I forgot. I was watching my fish in the waves, the beautiful green and purple colors in the water and I messed up. After Chris stripped off some line I got it together and landed my fish.
After my episode, the right rigging sounded again.Marlin.Tom's father-in law was in the chair. Reel man reel.30 seconds in the fight, fish off. Rats. Cap't Tanaka said it was small, 120-140lbs.Drat.
We landed 6 Mahi-mahi for the day and had a wonderful cruise and a fine day of fishing.I recommend anyone who is lookin at goin to Hawaii for fishing to look up Sportfish Hawaii @
www.sportfishhawaii.com and book a "share trip" on the Magic with Cap't Tanaka.
