Default Best Commercial Crab Season Ever

Just saw on the news that the commercial crab season has been the best ever with over 21 million pounds of crab harvested. Second best was 1979 with 18.2 million pounds.

They said that the season has been great all up and down the coast. I did not get all the figures. One of the south coast ports was #1 with over 5 million pounds. Newport had 4.2 million.

It looks like good ocean conditions are affecting more than just the salmon runs.

Crabbait I have a question.

I see your avatar is a lab and this got me thinking. Some guys that drop by our fishcamp at the coast have a lab that's missing it's tail. I asked why they had chopped off the dogs tail and they gave me this story.

Apparently the dog's tail had been run over or something and had to be amputated. The dog's owner kept the tail and took it with him on his next fishing trip to the coast. The tail ended up as bait in a crabpot, and actually produced keepers.

I was just wondering if you had anything to do with that story.

Noooooo! Nick has a long gorgeous tail, thank you, and he is very attached to it. It does tend to collect any K-fish left in the siderails but we will keep it right where it is.

Thanks for clearing that up crabbait. I have wanted to ask about that ever since seeing your name next to that lab picture. I have a black lab myself and he currently has all of his extremities.

...now that the lab tale has been solved back to the original post. Great news for crab lovers, lets hope that next year is as good.

Based on the rules in place it seems like there would always be plentiful crab. No females kept and only larger males harvested means the cycle continues.

i got 2 black labs, they are very happy dogs, allways wagging their tales.
i cant count the amount of times they have cleared off my coffe table, there just at that perfect height for this, since they like their tales, i have no choice but to trim thier legs

Crabbait,

Are those the numbers for just the Oregon coast?

Dog tails... one does not want to wear shorts around my dog when she's been swimming. Contact with it feels like being snapped by a wet towel in the locker room.
