Default Suttle Lake Browns

A friend and I are going over to Suttle Lake next week for a day trip. We heard they have an underfished brown trout population. We are going to give it a try and wondered if anyone has some experience with Suttle and the browns?

We fished that lake alot when I was a kid. I think we went there 10 years in a row. anyway if you ever fished for browns before you fish for them there just like Wickiup. I liked to trool in about 8 to 12 feet with a shinking Rappla.

I use to fish Suttle Lake a lot when Blue lake was open to the public. It is also was the first place I caught a brown trout. The best spot on the lake is the north side the same side as the highway.I like to troll rapala's in size 9 and 11.My best colors are orange, gold & black and black and silver. There are a lot of down tree's on the north side and I troll just in front of them.I hope this helps

Make sure you are there early enough to fish right before sun-up and a couple of hours past. Also in the evening. Troll the shallows by the lodge with a CD Rapala at those times and the rest of the day work the North Shore (As mentioned above) with spinners or better yet flies. (CD Rapalas work too) Cast them right in around the downed timber and you will score some nice fish.

If you are not a fly fisherman go get some of those clear "Torpedo" bobbers that you can pull the stem out of and fill it half way with water. Put it about 5 feet up your main line and then tie on some type of sinking fly (size 12-14 bead head soft hackle works great). Cast these around the downed timber and work them in real slow. I have caught some nice browns up to 18" doing that.
You will also catch lots of Rainbows and a few Brookies.

Good Luck.

In July-August a very pleasant way to end the day is floating around in floattube or boat casting to rising fish.

The outflow of the lake has a slight current and resembles fishing a spring creek. During that period the fish are feeding on small midge-type stuff.

Once the sun is off the water the trout usually rise.

The previous post was supposed to say thanks. Fat fingers of mine messed it up.

We kill when others whine about no fish. It's called jigging with crippled herring. Promise lots of Kokes and big Browns. This is our go-to lake for fun.
