Re: Rod reel setup for Jig fishing?
Boedy - I would suggest a 9.5 or 10.5 foot spinning rod. This would be an 1143 or 1263 in Loomis or Rainshadow model numbers (or possibly a 1264 if you want it a little heavier for salmon).
If you really have no idea what rod to get, talk to Mark when you get to the jig thingy. I have heard his speal and he knows what he is doing. He had 5 or 6 rods at the one I saw. I am sure he would let you cast his rods so you can get a feel for what he uses.
Nothing like buying a rod in a hurry and not being happy with it. Test a few out and see what you like.
As far as spinning reels, that is a whole other can of worms. Depends on how much you want to spend. You can get an Okuma for $50 on sale, or Shimano has some over $200. Usually with more dollars you get more bearings that tend to be smoother.
I have 20 lb power pro on my rod and love the stuff.
