Default Springer fishing below Longview 3-11

A beautiful day on the water. but there were more gillnet boats than sport boats. I counted 10 gillnet boats working about a 2 mile stretch of river. There was plenty of VHF traffic too and for the most part there were very few fish taken. One boat captain said "I got 1 fish in 4 drifts".

I have never witnessed gillnetting like I saw today. Boat after boat drifting by. From what I heard on the radio the Sea Lions got more from the nets than they did. I heard of 2 fish taken by sport fisherman. I didn't touch a fish today but this was just my first trip out.

Nice report Time Off, I've got to get out one of these days and give that springer fishing a try. Are you going out crabbing again this weekend? I stayed over and crabbed on Saturday. We didn't do as well because it got kind of rough so we came in early.

Time Off- Glad to hear you're hitting the water. I'll be out Saturday, in a friends boat, soon we should hit the river in a mini flotilla! The new boat has yet to go out for a serious springer effort but I tried one day on an open seat and several days from the bank! Tight lines.

I'm new to this forum, so I'm just getting started. I was down there today and saw all the gillnet boats, what a site. I managed to get one fish to the boat and lost it in the motor. Kind of hard trying to land a fish by yourself with both of my labs trying to retrieve it.

Time Off, I saw all the boats working that stretch today and I knew I made the right choice going steelhead fishing today. My Dad and I were out yesterday and didn't touch a thing. Not sure how the rest of the boats did but we didn't see many in our area doing anything. With the nets staying in until 10 tomorrow morning I think I'll just stay home and straighten up the garage. Time Off, that picture turned out really good. I didn't think any would turn out with the battery problems you were having with your camera. Good job. Next time we need to bring extra batteries.

While listing to the gillnetters on the radio it sounded like they were mad at the sportfihers because the fish the sportfishers caught were their (gillnetters) fish. And they kept going to talk to the sportfishers and asking them to move so they could come down through that area.

We were tied up to a wing dam today at Crims Island until about noon. The gilnetters would drop the net in right next to or just above the wing dam. Then after clearing the wing dam they would drag the net towards the bank so they were down river of us. Like they were purposely trying to catch any fish that might come our way.

Duckboy23, we heard the gillnetters talking about you. Gillnetters talking on radio - Sportfisher had one on but lost it because it got tangled aroung the outdrive. Me talking now - I hope you have better luck next time. Hey, maybe it will be bigger next time to.
