Default My Oiling Mystery?

I have a 96 Lund with a Johnson 6 horse 2-stroke kicker. My Oil tank broke a couple months ago, and I went to the Lund dealer and they gave me a used one. The oil/fuel mix has been perfect for the first 6 trips until I refilled the oil tank this last time. The motor smoked badly last trip out until it finally died due to fouled plugs. Cleaned the plugs and still wouldn't fire replaced plugs still nothing checked the fuel and it looks like 50/50 or better mix, the oiler is putting too much oil out does anyone know of an adjustment?

I've never been a fan of external oiling systems for mixing fuel. There is something said for you doing it yourself. A risk with flow failure. 4 cycle is the future, yet you may want to hold on to this one since it's newer. At this point you may need to take it in to a repair shop to clean and clear the system and then monitor the oiling system if not replace it. Their history is not good with the "use it and put it away" method.

It may be that your oil pump has gone bad or it might just be a case of carbon build up in your cyliders and exhaust system. OMC has and reccomends that you run a can of "Engine Tune Up" (I think that is what it is called) through your motor every year. It goes in and loosens and removes all the carbon that has built up from the trolling that we do. I had to have mine done (15 HP Rude' no oil pump) as it was doing the same thing as what you are describing, the shop also readjusted my carb as it was running to rich, which didn't help things a bit. Just something else to check out.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Thanks for the advise guys I'll try to clean the system and see if it helps but when I squirted gas out of the line it looked really oily. Sam your lawnmower runs on everclear I've been drinking that not running it. I have the old oiler andf I think I may try to put parts together to make it work. Thanks again
